Hd 4850 Crossfire Problem

Thread Starter
Yesterday when I started up my computer with crossfire, everything was fine. Today, when I go to CCC the crossfire option is gone, it still shows 2 videocards on the tray at the bottom right, and in Computer Management one of the cards shows up with an "!". At properties it says:
"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available."

Any idea whats wrong? The 4850s are different brands (ASUS and Visiontek). Also, how do I control fan speed? I'm pretty sure I got the hotfix, but I don't see where I can control the fan speed.

this should help you control your fan speed. Set it to 45-50%

I tried doing it earlier, didn't work. But took a look at it again and I got it working, thanks.

As near as I can tell, that little trick only works on the first card in a crossfire setup. It seems to have no effect on my second 4870.

take both cards out, and try booting the system with each card in it by itself.

One of them might be dead

also, get new aftermarket coolers for the 4850s, the stock ones are junk, and your case temps with two of those in there are probably outrageous

I uninstalled/reinstalled drivers and everything was fine. Driver Cleaner Pro didn't seem to work. It didn't do anything when I tried to clean out the drivers. It just said "Please wait, cleaning ATI".
