Possible build, Feedback needed. (updated) - Page 2

Just out of curiosity as I'm going to see if I can squeeze out a bit more money soon and maybe adjust a bit if I can. How much power does a crossfire/SLI setup tend to draw for 4850/4870 8800gt/9800gtx/GTX260.

-it draws a bit more power but you should be just fine with the 750w corsair i recommended, i would stick ati right now.

Are X38/48 boards worth looking at all? One thing was curious about if I ever did go with an X board was that they don't show support for DDR2 1066, only 800 and DDR3. Did they just miss it or are they not capable of running it without ocing?

-x48 boards are great, plenty are capable of 1066 im not sure what ur looking at maybe im wrong you should get a second opinion but im pretty sure most ddr2 x48 boards will have NO problems running 1066

I plan on keeping the system for a good couple years, maybe 3+ so most likely going to go for the quad with changing out video cards, the other day I was thinking about the Q9300 but it didn't seem to be too worth it. $70 more and the voltage sensitivity with the 45nm would worry me a bit.

-q9300 sucks if you want to go up from the 6600 or 6700(i really suggest the 6700 over the 6600 they have been sucking recently) skip the 9300 and go straight to the 9450 or youll lose cache and performance just for sse4.

Any idea how long the cables are on the corsair TX 750 or the GameXtreme? I have a full tower case so in some instances cables might be a bit short. I bought my current PSU Thermaltake TR2 W0070RUC 430W just for the fact that it had quite long cables for full towers.

while i dont have the review handy i recall it mentioning the length of the corsair 750w's cables as i was intrested in it for my upcoming armor+ build(huge friggin case) and im pretty sure their adequately long. i have no idea about the gamextreme ive actualy heard bad things about them being overly loud or dieing.

Just going through different possible builds in my mind at the moment. Not necessarily going with a crossfire board or anything yet. However do you or anyone else know for a fact that most of the X38/48 boards fit a Tuniq heatsink? I was looking at the Asus Rampage formula and a few posts in some places mentioned that large heatsinks might be a pain to fit due to motherboard copper heatsinks.

Updated original post with some refined build thoughts.

Tuniq tower is better for dual core processors, so I'd either go with a xigmatek, TRUE, or a ZALMAN for the quad.

Nice choice on the antec twelve hundred, it has excellent air flow

If you don't plan on going SLI/Crossfire go with this board:

4850 crushes 9800GTX, so I'd go with either a visiontek or sapphire 4850.

Stick with a Q6600 because its cheaper than most, and you can get a decent overclock out of it (at least 3.2ghz).

750W PSU is good for 4850's in crossfire, so I'd just go for a 600W+

Good luck with your build
