Verizon Internet - Page 3

Verizon's service is great but dont get it if you plan on playing games that have over 2000 servers because it will flood the piece of crap router they give you everytime. Ive had 10/2 fios since november and every since day one if i refresh my servers on counter-strike source and let it get passed 1,800 servers the internets shuts off for about 2minutes and then automatically comes back on. Ive called verzion numerous times to try and get a new router for free but to no avail. SO I WARN YOU DO NOT GET FIOS IF YOU PLAN ON PLAYING STEAM MULTIPLAYER GAMES. The router they give is this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Actiontec_MI424WR.

They are still bringing fios to other cities right? I'm wondering what this involves, do they literally have to lay down new lines and stuff?

Also I was trying to find this earlier, but couldn't. I'm wondering what some real speedtest stats are? I know the advertised speeds... But i'm just wondering what someone who actually has fios gets from speedtest.
I'm rocking comcast(suckcast) cable and I only get about 4400 down and 2200 up with 80ms ping.

When we got it they just came randomly and put a HUGE generator in our front yard and started digging all over the place. My neighbors still hate us for this.

Well I got bad news for you. If you just ordered fios then you won't be getting it for a month. It takes a really long time for them to come and set it up.

It's advertised for 15/2, but I usually get 18/1.8 so even though I loose a little on upload I get more on download LOL. I still haven't set up bitcoment yet to use it that well but I have hit 1.5mps on a good seeded download. Ohh and most websites wont let you download stuff much faster than 300kps.

I hate the router they gave me it was one with wifi built in b/g, and I already have a Linksys N, and I had the guy bridge them or something, IDK I hate networking.

Damn that's crazy. I thought it was awesome when i magically went from 2200 down to 4400 down with my new laptop, but I can't even begin to think of all of the stuff I could download with those speeds.

I looked at that router they give you and it looks meh. I like my current modem -> wireless linksys router configuration. I guess one could always plug their old router into the new router if needed.

Thx guys. Sounds like I'm gonna be switching over

And its honestly about time this cable company got some competition, they've been treating customers like crap for the past 10 years. They do everything possible to net a new customer but after that its like you are doing business with a brick wall.

Ya sry about the slow response, you can't go outside and switch the speed for yourself, they have some weird things in the box that they have to do before they can switch the speed and they can only unlock the box
