OC My e6300 on a EP35-DS3R

Hey guys,
I recently purchased a new mobo, ram, and heatsink in hopes of breathing some life into my old E6300 Processor.

---------------------------
New Mobo : EP35-DS3R (Can support up to 1333MH FSB)
New RAM : 4GB/(2GBx2) G-Skill DDR1000 / PC2-8000
-CL 5-5-5-15
-Voltage 2.0 - 2.1V
New Heatsink: Tuniq Tower 120
-Doesn't quite cool the way it should. My bro has the same heatsink with a E6550 - it keeps his proc at idle 40c, my processor at stock settings idles 50c. I dunno, we'll cross this bridge when we need to I suppose.
---------------------------

Everything works fine... and at the time, I had a XFX 8800GT OC which ran great for my resolution (1280x1024), I got good framerates in Crysis on VERY HIGH (28 - 32fps) and Max FPS in everything else. Well, my 8800GT fried (overheated because of a stupid cable barely got in the way of the fan, and it overheated!) NewEgg was kind enough to let me to a refund despite having purchased it over 1 1/2 months ago, so I used the money to buy a VisionTek HD 4850... A good choice I thought. I got it shipped to me quickly, and installed it. Everything went smooth, except my framerates aren't quite as good as my 8800GT - so I started wondering if my older E6300 could be bottlenecking my GPU.

When I first got my GigaByte Mobo, I experiemented w/ overclocking my e6300, only successfully got it to OC to 2.4GHz... anything past that, the comp would just restart, and revert the bios settings. I gave up trying to go further, I was just too excited with the new vid card, and ram.

Anyways, I got my new 4850, and I want to continue my OCing Journey. Since my first adventure, I've noted some specific things that could have been hindering my OCing experience before. Here's what I've found.
---------------------------
My E6300 has a FSB Limitation of 1066MHZ
My Ram and Motherboard is capable of going to 1333MHZ fsb...
---------------------------
So, following plenty of other guides and posts about overclocking the E6300 and other, more recent E65XX and above series processors. What I think the problem is, is my Processor can't keep up w/ the ram and the mobo, hence the restarting. I want to get my FSBRAM to 1:1 as I can, but as I read into such things, I found info on changing ram timings. By default my timings are 5-5-5-15, and from what I understand, the lower the better? Anyways, I tried quickly educating myself, for once, I got a little scared.
So, here I am - that's my story. My goal: to OC my E6300 high enough to support this 4850, w/o harming my system.

I have CPU-Z, Core Temp, Prime95, and GPU-Z if we need it. If you request screenshots, Bios settings, whatever, I'll cooperate. Please help. =)

Well, what you're hitting at 2.4 GHz is most likely the issue of the CPU not getting enough voltage...

but to know for sure,

download OCCT, so we can see what voltages you are getting at idle and at load (the latest CPU-Z has replaced the current voltage with the CPU's stock voltage)

get it here: http://www.overclock.net/downloads/191765-occt.html

get back to use with some screen shots at idle and at load (to get load, hit the green "go" button, and wait about a minute for it to start stressing the processor)

EDIT: Also be sure to check out the P35-DS3L thread.. http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...3l-thread.html

(there's one for the DS3R like yours, but the "L" thread is much more active.. the only difference in the motherboard is that the L version lacks RAID functionality)

Ok, Will do, downloading now, will run the tests and post screenshots.

ALSO, I messed around since last post - I think I'm on to something about my memory frequency going past my CPU's FSB (1066).... and my comp restarting as a result. In the bios, I set the Memory Frequency (SPD) to an option that brings my memory to 930MHZ. And my FSBRAM ratio is 4:5....

Here's a screenshot w/ my current OC results... Only thing that worries me, is my temperatures are somewhat high. Within the first minute of Prime95, I reached temps of 63c. 60 should be my limit, correct?

I was right! at least I think so. hehe
I successfully overclocked my E6300 to 3.01GHZ. Lowered the Voltage to 1.28V to have Prime95 never go past 59c. My DDR21000/PC2-8000 ram is 1:1 fsb w/ my processor.
With the Tuniq Tower 120, does idle 50c sound right with these settings?
Also, would anyone recommend me doing anything else? tightening my ram timings?

On a side note, running at 3GHz is a notice in 3dmark Vantage - and my Vista index went from 5.2 to 5.7...lol - my HD 4850 still isn't getting very good frame rates! Maybe I'll post a new topic on that in the video card section.

Thanks for your help FearMeansControl, you inspire me, I guess. =)
If you guys want screenshots or anything, I'm more then happy to post them.
