ok here goes.

i have had a 8800ultra for ages , and i thought it might be time for an upgrade.

so i went and ordererd myself a >>>Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4870<

Is that card faster, than the 8800ultra or have i just wasted all my money.

according to Toms Hardware the 4870 beats the ultra

EDIT: But barely enough for me to recommend getting a 4870 while already having an ultra (a waste of money)

yes you did

you could also test them yourself if you still have the old card.

I'm not sure I could convince myself to buy a 4870 over an Ultra that I already have--I'm sure the 4870 takes the lead in a few games by some fps, but for the most part, I can't think of a game that an Ultra can't make playable at (what I'm guessing is) your res that a 4870 can... fps vs. fps, yes, the 4870 can outperform the ultra--but we're talking something like 60+fps vs. 65+fps, I wouldn't say it's a great upgrade. But on the other hand, if you have the cash, it is newer and better...

well one thing i do know is the 4870 has a bigger transistor count than the ultra so that should help.

why is it that some of the 4870 are cheaper than the others but they are the same.?

one was £149.99 but the other is £199.99

I have a 4870 and I love it. Having said that, I think you wasted your money since you already have a 8800 Ultra. The Ultra is still an amazing card. Amazing enough that you could have skipped this whole generation of cards.

I wouldve stuck with the Ultra as its almost on par with the 4870.Why not get another Ultra,Now that wouldve been nice.
