Gtx 260 Vs. 9800gtx Sli

Thread Starter
Hey everyone.

Someone has probably made a post for this in the past 2 weeks, but I couldn't find it when I searched.

Anyway, as the title states, I'm looking to see which is better since the 260 is almost 100 dollars less than 2x 9800GTX's.

2x 9800GTX's = 400 Dollars
1x GTX 260 = 309.99 (On www.newegg.com)

So what would be better?

Thanks for the input!

The GTX SLI will pretty much equal a GTX 280 in sli coded games, so yes it will beat the 260.

I would get a GTX 260 now and then another in the future when the price drops. I saw MSI GTX 260 at ZipZoomFly for $259 after MIR, I think they sold out though =/

I had 9800GTX SLI and I UPgraded to the 260.

I couldn't take SLI with the GTX's because SLI is not really smooth. It's a lot of problems and hassle cause not all games work with SLI (Grid) and there's a lot to learn with SLI too.

I got SLI figured out, especially after two or three weeks toying with it, but I knew that even though it got overall higher FPS, the gameplay was not as smooth as I have it now.

Even though I have lower MAX FPS, I am so happy with the decision I made as SLI is only as good as a single card. (minimum FPS in games would be equal to that if I ran one card)

Personally, now that I have SLI worked out, I got my 260 and I may get one more eventually when the prices drop. So I would go with the 260, I am very happy with the decision I made.

go with single card solution. one gtx260 is more than enough for your resolution.

at 1440x900 SLI and CF it not wroth it, for that resolution a single 9800GTX will max out any game.

I hate SLI for two reasons. 1 I use 2 monitors. 2 There are numerous games that don't do SLI even a lot of the new ones as well.

yeah you pay twice as much for only 10%-50% difference, lucky even if you get 50% =/, plus more heat and more power consumption

QFT SLI and CF is way overrated you get compatability issues sometimes and some games dont even give the performance you would expect. Single card solution is the best way to go so go for a very nice one that'll serve you well.
