Cheap card suggestions?

Thread Starter
Basically, I'm building a low-end system for my girlfriend with some spare parts I have, and ordering some new ones. She's a VERY light gamer, in that she won't play games that require any graphical capability (more than onboard, obviously, but not very extensive). I was looking for something less powerful than a 7900GS that I have right now, and hopefully cheaper.

I was thinking an 8600, but I've been warned against buying those since it's a waste of money. However, she won't need the power of an 8600, either, so is there something less powerful that could still do the deed? I'll find the recommended settings for the only game she plays in a second and edit this post.

Also, for all it helps, it'd be nice to watch videos on youtube, dvd, etc. Though I'm pretty sure that doesn't require hardly anything.

Edit: All it says is a 3d acceleration card. So.... yeah.

If you're doing a new build, an AMD machine (AM2) with a 780g chipset would do nicely. Then you could just use onboard and be even BETTER than an 8600 .

If you're looking at AGP - 7600GS or X1650
If you're looking at PCIe- 7600GT (if they still make them), HD2600

Those SHOULD be fine, but of course you can go higher if wanted/needed .

The 780G has the HD3200 onboard... it is about the same as a HD3450. This is MUCH weaker than the 8600GT.
Once again...

No kidding? I thought it would be more powerful myself. Heard nothing but good things about it. Huh! Good to know.

But still though...if its a new build the HD3200 onboard with the 780G would make a decent LIGHT gamer machine. I think it would be at least.

I've got a left over Athlon 64 3800+ (socket AM2) I could use for her build, and I remember it working absolutely fine for the game, when I played it for 6 months or so. However, I might just get a cheap dual-core AM2. Suggestions?

I'd throw in that 3800.
