Just picked up Quake 4

Thread Starter
I've only played through a couple levels so far. It hasn't really captured my interests just yet.

I was wondering though, do the weapons really sound that bad or have I overlooked a setting somewhere? I realize this game was released in 2005 but still, the sound quality of the weapons so far is horrible. Sounds like someone bangins forks together. FEAR was released in 2005 and the sound quality of that game was f'n amazing.

Anyway, if there is something I've overlooked please let me know.

Thanks.

I have always thought of the entire Quake series as technology demos. IMO, everything you just said is defiantely true for QuakeI/II also. I did think Quake3 looked pretty good for its time but that might just be in comparison to the constant grey/tan texturing used in QuakeI/II.

Well, I'm hoping not.
I wanted something cheap to play until Mass Effect comes down in price or goes on sale.
The review I read said the single player was pretty good.

Here's hoping......

Quake 4 was fine IMO. The multiplayer aspect was much more enjoyable for me in Quake 3, compared to 4. Although, the single player was strongly improved, but still may be a bit bland to most people.

I found it fun...make sure you have OpenAL enabled. I can't remember if you need to be in game mode in the Creative console for it to kick in though. I'm in audio creation mode most of the time because game mode even makes games sound like crap half the time.

Try the multiplayer as well. I don't think it has a huge following, but I find the freezetag games to be pretty enjoyable.

I thought the same to be honest. It wasn't brilliant, not close to FEAR or HL2 but as a run and gun shooter, its not bad.

I also got the Special Edition so I got Quake 2 aswell

I enjoyed Quake 3 Multiplayer better, plus no one really plays quake 4 multiplayer. Single player is fine.
