Got new 2.6 p4 CPU for $20 and only showing up as 2ghz

I've got a really old HP Pavillion 533w. It had a Celeron and I just got a Pentium 4 2.6ghz processor for it. It boots up and all but the BIOS and windows xp only recognizes 2ghz.

ASUS P4G533-LA motherboard with no OC or anything related in the BIOS, it's an HP.

Am I pretty much stuck with that? Or is there any way around this besides getting a new mobo?

See if you can reset the CMOS - the multiplier may have been set to a specific figure.

There should be a jumper on the board itself which you need to move for 20 seconds or so and then move back

Couldn't find a jumper, hp says find the J4 jumper, but I don't see any, so I removed the battery for 20 minutes. Not even sure if anything reset.

This sounds wierd. But go into your power options and put in on "Always on". And see if that helps.

That has the same effect. Sounds like a board limitation sorry

Yep did that. Same thing.

Weird thing is, Windows XP, in Control Panel > System it reads it as a Intel P4 2.66ghz, then under it, 1.99ghz 1gb Ram. So windows does recognize it, but only using 2ghz...

Could we see a CPU-Z screenshot or validation page?

That would help a lot
