P4 3.4Ghz...running at 4.4Ghz!?!?!need voltage advice please!

Thread Starter
hey guys and girls.i'm very new here but iv been playin around with pc's for a while.been overclocking for a few months.

abit as8v
p4 3.4Ghz - stock. overclocked to 4.4Ghz
2.5G ram

Hyper Threading disabled - runs smoother with it off for some reason.
External clock 260mhz
multiplier *17
n.bridge strap by cpu
dram ratio 3:2 cpu:dram
agp/pci 75/38
VOLTAGES
cpu core 1.6675v
ddr 2.70v
n.bridge/agp 1.60v

DRAM
2.5, 5, 3, 3 @ 3:2 cpu/dram - 1.1 wont boot

is this set up okay?i know i have a high clock speed but the pc still seems slow and using everst i dont get the best results and they all lower clock speeds.

also, is my voltage too high on anything?i increased all them a little each time and i know that too high a voltage will just murder my cpu.

any help and advice is much appreciated

I dont think hyperthreading disabled should be running smoother.
It should be running better enabled

Um, that's way over the max spec voltage. It shouldn't be over 1.4V.

It will run, as you can see, but don't expect it to last too long. The processor will burn out pretty quickly.

Manyak Um, that's way over the max spec voltage. It shouldn't be over 1.4V.

okay il go and set it to 1.4v and see if it will still run.i doubt it will run though will it?

Arakasi I dont think hyperthreading disabled should be running smoother.

when hyper threading is enabled i fint that xp doesnt run very fast and it becomes a little glitchy with xp and doesnt like to multitask programs that well.
does that sound bizzare?

Well multi threading makes the os think that there are multiple processors with a Pent4 so it makes data travel accross multiple highways... Intel states they designed it to help with windows running multiple applications and such. Yeah it sounds bizarre but then again im not of the highest knowledge on the subject.

Sorry i cant edit posts at work.
I mean hyperthreading not multi threading in my last post.
Sorry

Wikipedia:

Hyper-threading (officially termed Hyper-Threading Technology or HTT) is an Intel-proprietary technology used to improve parallelization of computations performed on PC microprocessors via simultaneous multithreading. It is an improvement on super-threading. It debuted in U.S. Patent 4,847,755 (Gordon Morrison, et. al) and can be seen in use on the Intel Xeon processors and Pentium 4 processors. The technology improves processor performance under certain workloads by providing useful work for execution units that would otherwise be idle, for example during a cache miss. A processor with Hyper-Threading enabled is treated by the operating system as two processors instead of one.

Hyper-threading relies on support in the operating system as well as the CPU. Conventional multiprocessor support is not enough to take advantage of hyper-threading.[1] For example, even though Windows 2000 supports multiple CPUs, Intel does not recommend that hyper-threading be enabled under that operating system.

iv set the voltage back to 1.4875v
on everest it hasnt gone over 1.42v, thanks for that!

yeah i understand what the hyperthreading is meant to do but it doesnt seem to work too well in my opinion.

i will retry 4.4Ghz at lower voltages tomorrow
