ok so i deleted anything brought up in the registry when i searched aspyr, guitar hero, and hg3, and yet i still get the same original error message. i tried a registry cleanup, but they all seem to require payment to fix the problems once their scan is complete. any other ideas??????

use ccleaner and go to the uninstall applications window, then go find guitar hero and delete key or something like that.

EDIT: ccleaner -> tools -> application -> delete entry

He just needs the .exe to make the system think that it's there.

It's against the ToS to talk about it, not to actually do it. It's not like you can get banned for doing something off this site. That's like saying I hack in COD4, and I get banned on this site.

Atleast I contributed, your post didn't help anyone.

it wouldnt help though...the problem is he cant reinstall, because he never technically uninstalled the game. the nocd stuff just replaces the executable with one that makes the system believe that the cd is in. and besides...he has the cd.

i may be wrong, correct me if so, but cant you just move all - or some of - the files from the cd to the game folder and run the uninstaller from there?

If nothing else works (worst case senario) you could always do a backup then reinstall windows. Kindof looks like you made the program a "ghost". With quite a few games I've had, I've had to completely reinstall windows to get the game to work again.

If it's that important to you, I think you're looking at a reformat.

I've had similar problems back in the day when I didn't know anything.
