well if you were happy with the DFI then maybe the DFI is for you but i would think that would have left a bad taste in your mouth. in refrence to why i would take the P5E ive never seen anyone on here not happy with theirs and thats reason enough for me in this case

I'm just weighing my options....

The Asus P5E is moddable to the Asus Formula, right? Any advantages in doing so?
Once again...

my understanding is that you get all the OCing options that are in the formula

I love my P5E. It is actually a slightly stripped down maximus formula. If you remove the sticker that says P5E by the pci-e slots, it actually has maximus formula printed on the pcb. It can be flashed to rampage formula bios to allow for some extra options. I think you can tweak the ram a lot more with the rampage formula bios.

All I need to do is flash the BIOS with the Formula? What are your chipset temps like with stock cooling?

(Now, I really hope my CPU isn't fried)

The x38 chipset runs pretty hot, but a simple fan blowing on it takes care of it easily. I went with water on it when I got my case from Syrillian and the temps are a lot cooler now. I can also hit the same fsb, but with lower voltages than when it was on air. One of the good parts about the P5E is that the sb and nb heatsinks are separate from the mosfet heatsinks, so you can replace the nb and sb cooling without having to worry about getting something for the mosfets.

I just picked up a ASUS P5Q for $119.99 from ZipZoomFly. No frills and no gimmicks, just how I like it. It only has 1 PCI Express 2.0 slot but does support PCI Express 4x.

you can flash the P5E to the maximus formula... It unlocks the "extra" overclocking options... It just enables all the extra weird stuff that hardly anyone messes with to OC. It also my let you set higher voltage settings...

The P5Q that i am running now will take 2.1vcore... with this board running my 45nm chip, 2.1v is waaaaaaay over kill...

Point is, it will enable extra overclocking options, but nothing that would be worth it in my eyes.

I am loving my motherboard. It runs around $200 but has everything and then some in what your looking for in a motherboard. I can get over 500fsb no sweat on my e8400, dropping the multi of course.
