Best CPU Cooler

Thread Starter
I looking for the best CPU cooler. It must fit a socket 775 in a Ultra Aluminus case. Blue LEDs are a plus. Price range has to reasonable, under 120$ is good. Also, what is the best thermal compound on the market? Arctic Silver or OCZ Freeze?

I don't trust that site one bit..how does the Ultra 120 out perform the Ultra 120 Extreme?

My favourite air cooler, the Noctua NH-U12P. I've had a few in my day and stuck with this one, its awesome and absolutely silent. The stock fan is probably one of the, if not the highest quality fans you can buy today. Great cooler and if its in your budget I highly recommend it.

One of the most popular coolers around here is the TRUE(Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme). If you really want to get nice temperatures you might want to think about putting some time in lapping your cpu+TRUE.

Xigmatek HDT-S1283 is better than the True and you can get it for less than $40 with the fan. Not to mention its really quiet.

One vote for the IFX-14, because it is the current unmatched champion. (80$)

One vote for the TRUE, because it is only beaten by it's big brother, but takes a lot less space. (55-60$)

There are others than come close, but since you have a big budget I don't think you would consider them. Then there's the fan, I suggest the Scythe Ultra-Kaze 2000 for a nice balance of power and noise: it also works really well in combination with a TRUE.

And for the thermal paste, I'm heard much good about AC MX-2, Shin-Etsu, and OCZ Freeze.

Also remember not to trust that FrostyTech review, this is like the tenth time I see it come up when it's well known it was badly done.

what about the Ultra Chilltec? I heard somewhere on here other coolers can get close to the cooling of the chilltec but not top it. But since its so expensive the other coolers has become more popular. Im stuck between the TRUE and the chilltec.

The Chilltec is just too big/old/inneffective/power-hungry to still be in people's minds. When you have newer coolers that yield near-exact temps but without using a TEC pad or being 5 feet long.....you know..
