Thread Starter
FYI. I am still using XP for all of this.

I'll have to get me a pci wireless adapter tomorrow at BB :turd: :turd: or CC :turd:; my motherboard does have wifi but I couldnt figure out how to use it so I went back to my USB as it was easier.

Ask around on the forums to get your Mobo's WIFI set up... Integrated wireless is ALWAYS fastest way... then Via PCI slots is runner up

And don't spend more than $50 on a wireless card.. Anything more and you should go online and get what I got from newegg - Draft-N 300MBPS Wireless card, $55 shipped - has 3 antennas and is fabulous

EDIT: I would switch to vista when possible... Vista needs less drivers and is much easier to set up... all you need is graphics drivers and you are good to run

Sorry to hijack the thread, but that's actually some good information right there. I had no idea that I didn't need to install chipset or network drivers.

didn't read the 10 pages, but did you reformat? if you're still having the problem it sounds like either a part was damaged or the OS corrupted.

AlphaDog your drive might be corrupted. Try reformatting if you're OK losing your files. Or try another drive with a fresh install of Windows on it.

Good luck,

I think I am going to order Vista x64 right now and just wait a week to use my computer. Since I plan on upgrading to vista in a couple weeks anyways; this way I wont have to reinstall everything in a little bit. Till then, thanks all!

Sounds good...

Do note that with Vista64, if SP 1 is not pre-installed, you will have to install Vista with less than 3GB first (thats if you buy more RAM), then install SP1 or KB929777 update...

And Do not bother installing motherboard, audio drivers, or anything else if they already work

Vista has a ton of stuff built into it! I can reformat and have a working, internet and gaming ready copy of Vista installed in 10 minutes, with only one thing needing to be installed: Graphics Driver (this is with a disk that has SP1 w/ additional updates already on it)

It might even pick up your motherboard's WIFI card

Good luck and hope Vista goes well for you.. feel free to PM me if you need help.... Ive done alot of work on vista lol
