okay i was wondering what kind of aftermarket cooling solution did anybody put on there northbridge on the gigabyte m59sli-s5 mobo?

i am trying to overclock my cpu but i find that my northbridge becoming unstable because of heat....my problem is that if i try to take off northbridge i have to take off the southbridge as well since it is dual silent heat pipes!

anybody got any suggestions...i was thinking of just trying to get a switech waterblock for both my southbridge and northbridge and gamble on it actually fitting!

Good luck with that bud.

How's the airflow and fans inside your case? Do you maybe have some spare fans that you can attach in the meantime to see if that works. I didn't find anything on a google search but you can maybe contact the manufacturer and ask them to see if it will fit on this motherboard or not.

Adramalech, this might be a little difficult. You could replace the two chipset coolers but then you may have troubles cooling your mosfets on the left of your socket. Apparently it looks like they are all tied in together via heatpipes. I have a Thermalright HR-05-SLI on my nForce 4 chipset and works quite well. You might have troubles fitting two on your board though. Another cooler you could go with is the Zalman NB47J. I've used a couple of these and they work pretty good for their size. With these though you cannot mount a fan on them.

I wish I could suggest more for you.

Good luck buddy

hey thanks guys for the help....my computer has just been beeping i was trying for 3.5 ghz and it didn't like that because i dropped the memory down to ddr2-400 and timings 3-3-3-10 2T and i had to reset the cmos....but now it will turn on and it will sometimes not boot up it will sit there and act like it is rebooting like it has overclock settings...

other times it will freeze at the bios page....could it be that i broke something?? or my memory finally cooked?? it would give me an excuse to go buy brand new high end corsair pc2-8000 memory!!!

EDIT: well i like your idea i was thinking of water cooling them with a swiftech chipset watercooler for the northbridge but for the southbridge might use ur idea...also for the mosfets figure out a metal heatsink...but atleast i know the northbridge will probably have to be watercooled...

furthermore i will upgrade to a triple rad...right now regular settings just cooling cpu on a dual rad...i get like core temps in low 30C and overall temp of mid 20C and add on the northbridge...

adramalech, are these problems occurring at stock settings? Make sure you run stability tests before you go any further.

Let us know

Good luck

well i haven't got that far yet without it doing something wrong...could be that i overheated the mosfet again and have to wait to let it cool down alittle....

i am going to give this url out that has all the heatsink info for all motherboard compatibility list so if ur looking for alternate cooling for your nb, sb, and/or mosfet then it will be very helpful...
