Is this an okay build (for a family member)? - Page 2

What is the pc going to be used for?

I sure hope he will use that system for more than just email/internet.

I was thinking about this as well. I have two 8800gts in my rig and I was thinking of just installing one of them in his rig (I would sell it to him for 50 bucks) and then I would sell the other one to my cousin. I would use the money to buy a new nvida card since the prices are going down.

When I built my new computer I had an old intel celeron computer that I had upgraded quite nicely. Anyways I didn't have any use for it so I gave it to him. He said he didn't have any problems with it but then the other day he came over and saw my rig and he said he wanted something like that I said I could built him one for around a grand.

At first he probably will just use it for that but once he sees what is capable of, I'm sure he will find different uses for it.

Funny thing about my uncle is that he was the first one to introduce me to computers and he is pretty good with machines but he never had the time to really dedicate to pc building. So when he ask me to look into this I was very excited to show him what I can do.

Thanks for all the recommendations and questions guys

Hmm. I'd get a 4GB ramkit, E8400 and a less beefier gpu. Does this family member play graphicly heavy games?

If so, that card should do fine (maybe look into the 48XX cards). If not a 9600GT would cut it for awile.

I think I will get the 9600 card and the e8400 as well. The ram however I will stick with the 2 gigs since I'm sticking with 32bit vista.

Definitely get the e8400 and if he doesn't play many games the 9600GT should be fine.

Just my 2 cents I found Vista 64bit to be better than 32bit. Even if you don't have 4gbs of RAM, it just makes upgrading easier, and I found 64bit to be more stable and responsive.
