hi guys,

finally after lot of research about Quad processor i got my computer yesterday and its running now.
here is specs: (note: no plan for overclocking in near future)

Processor- Q6600 G0 2.4 8MB
MotherBoard- Intel DP35DP
GPU- XFX 8800GT 512MB
RAM- PC2-6400 2GBx2GB (total 4GB)
Casing- Armor 8000B
PSU- ToughtPower 750Watt
HD- Seagate 200GB ATA (bootable) (old HD
brought long time back)
HD- Seagate 250GB Sata (7200RPM)
HD- Maxtor 1TB Sata (32MB Buffer)
DVD- LG DVD-RAM

(i got x2 windwos xp 32bit with sp2 cd's and windows vista extreme+sp1+office 2007 dvd)

Now there is some problem in my windows or may be hardware and i need ur help to fix it.

after assembling all part i installed xp 32bit just to upgrade BIOS and then i did the format on 200GB ATA and formatted 1TB Sata also and try to install Windows Visto on 200GB Ata but for some reason it didnot work and i did the quick format and installed again windows xp +sp2 32bit

but when xp +sp2 32bit was install i have noticed my cpu is not even more than 2% while burning dvd and formatting hd and trasffering data from 1 hd to other all at same time. note: no other software was installed on windows otherthan nero

now 2nd time (after failing vista) when i format my hd and installed different cd of xp and then install software for gpu (8800gt 512 xfx) install symentac 10 antivirus and now when i noticed my cpu is almost 20-25% idle and trasffering data from 200GB (C: to 1TB Sata is too slow and its taking 5 mintues to transffer 100MB from C: to sata but from sata to C: its just taking few seconds.

note: even booting xp is taking hell of time... now i don't know what is the problem... hardware...???? software....????

please help me to enjoy real quad speed and games...

thnx in advance for all comments and help... and any other ideas to enjoy real quad games...

I can barely understand what your trying to say here but Ill try and help From what I read, your not happy with the performance of your quad, your speed has significantly decreased after installing windows xp 32bit the second shot around. I have a Sata HD and ATA HD, my sata had windows 32bit pro, and my ata was my x64bit vista ultimate. vista seemed to run a bit slower than it should so I formatted my sata drive and installed vista on there and the slowness I was experiencing on the other installation was non existent. SATA drives are faster and I recommend installing whatever OS you plan on using more onto your sata drive. You had installed Norton Antivirus second time around, one thing I have noticed with any version of Norton is that it loves to do things in the background constantly, monitor real time, check for updates and such, that may have contributed to your extra idle load and even to data transfer slowing down. Try uninstalling your antivirus and see if your computer speeds up at all.

thnx for ur reply... but what do u think about:

transffering data from sata to ata is dead slow and again other way (ata to sata) is very fast.... ata to sata takes almost 10 min to transffer 50MB and moving back same data (from ata to sata) is faster than bullet...

Read and Write rates are different for each hard drive obviously a hard drive thats SATA is generally faster than an ATA. When you transfer files to your ATA from your SATA your sata can send the command and then the ATA has to write the files from the SATA drive, while when your sending the file from the ATA to the SATA the write speed is faster therefore a faster transfer. I hope this helps

thnx for ur help.... problem was solved by formatting and re-installing win-xp-sp2-32bit

cpu % is now normal (burning dvd + moving data from c > d & e > d & f > d + watching movies - all at same time) and cpu is only 0% 1% or 2%

data transfer rate also improved and moving data to C (5GB) take only 1 min

and removed f***** symantec antivirus...

thnx again

Well cool, glad I could help. I have noticed that Norton can be quite a resource hog in the past, I had it installed on my computer and it was bogging down vista ultimate a little so I uninstalled it. I would recommend a different AV program. AVG is decent and free, and Trend Micro makes a good product too but not for free .
