Warning! Taping tips ahead

I had to do this with no one as a camera man (ie - I had to tape and take pics) so hopefully I can detail this very well in text and have the pics accent it

I used a medicine bottle here, twas the only round thing I had The concept remains the same for smaller items though.

First what you want to do is stretch the tape, relatively tight, and place it against the edge of the item. Go slow and make sure you keep it along the seam you want.

Now start on one end and tape around. What I couldn't get a pick of here is this: I use my other thumb to hold the tape in the middle (so it doesn't pull up) then holding the edge of the tape tightly with my right hand I can manipulate the tape up/down to match the seam. Basically you want to hold it on the button with one finger, and then (using your other hand) work the tape edge along. After you get a little ways, move your finger up and repeat. [I hope this step makes sense, lol]

Now go ahead and stick that end of the tape down and tear off any excess on the other end. The overlap the other edge the same way you taped down the first half.

This is how I finish the top, you could just twist it tight (or whatever works for you keeping paint out, lol). Just take your thumb and press into one of the sides, this will fold it down. Now just do it again until you folded it all flat.

Ta-dah!

If you have any questions or something I typed doesn't make sense (which can be likely ) just let me know

Hey thanks repo! I never thought of doing it like that. Only hard part I see in my future with this is getting the tape into that tiny little crevice around the switches.. its not that deep, and has VERY little space.

Will definitly give it a try though!

Well, I used 2" masking tape (all I had ) if you get some 1/4" tape it will be easier I think. You can also purchase a "fine line" tape that is ~1/8" wide and thinner/more flexible. You will probably have to put a piece of tape over the top if you used the 'fine line' tape, but it might be easier to work with in the small area.

Here is a pic of the 'fine line' tape I'm referring to

Thanks again for all the tips repo, I used your suggestion where I could use it, and had to improvise for the rest

SEPT 10 Update!!

Just a quick note, this will be my last update for roughly a week or so.. Going to have surgery of my own tomorrow, for the same incident that landed me in the hospital a while back.. finally done on the waiting list

Anyways, enough crappy stuff, heres the good news

I got the panel taped up

I used repo's suggestion over the headphone jacks, but couldnt really get the tape to play nice with the switches, so I had to tape over then and use a utility knife to cut the edges of the circle. When it comes time for painting I will just hold down the tape to make sure I have a good seal and paint as I hold it (using some sorta bar or extender).

And just a couple pics of how the sides and back look now

I had a bit of trouble with the bondo getting thin and wearing down into the foam. So to solve that I have been cutting out the foam where it protruded and filling it with bondo. This should also help to secure the foam/bondo "iCap" in place.. (thats right Jobbs, SUE ME!)

Aside from that, the only work I will be able to do at home is minor sanding of the bezel to eliminate those pinholes. At least being 'grounded' will leave me enough time and the ability/inability to do that.

Oh well, ta ta for now.

Back.

And it wasnt OK actually.. Complications arose and bla bla bla I had to stay 9 days in hospital instead of 2, and now instead of 3-4 weeks recovery time, who knows.. suffice it to say I cant even lift Heracles right now. Which in turn kind of upsets me, as it was -1 here this morning, and cold weather isnt far off.. I would love to finish it off before winter

Aw man, I'm sorry to hear that Superk. Do they forsee you eventually recovering or will there be some permanent damage?

well I suppose having organs removed is about as permanant as it gets, but its nothing like 'imperative' to survival lol... They foresee a full recovery thankfully, and with some diet adjustments I can live like nothing ever happened, except for 4 scars from surgery
