3870 overclock problems

i was using rivatuner 2.09 and i maxed out my core clock to 1165mhz

gpu-z read it as 265mhz, my 3dmark06 score went down & to top it off my card was heating up more then normal

what could be going wrong?

Um...you must be VERY new to overclocking. The max for the 3870 is around 870 for a stock card. Over that you need to physically mod the card to make it run in the 900s and some serious cooling and volt mod to get to 1000MHz.

GPU-Z reads what the card is currently at, which in 2D mode is suppose to be 300MHz, then jumps to its normal speed when a 3D program is opened. Also your score will go down because the card is unstable and overheating.

Wow I'm amazed your card hasn't exploded...

I couldn't get my 3870 over 830mhz core...

Have you run ATITool to test for artifacts?

That is because your OC is not stable, set the defalut clocks right now, 1165 MHz are to much for those memories
