Game connection errors

Thread Starter
Well i was just playing shadowrun 20 minutes ago, and i was getting these connection errors that no one else was getting, and i would be constantly dieing during the connection errors.

I dont think it has anything to do with firewall on my computer because when i was hosting gears of war matches yesterday on my xbox, the whole game was getting connection errors as well and they were all saying i was using lag switch and :swearing:. After one of their buddies got fed up with it and left the game, we had 0 connection errors for the rest of the game.

It seems like i have only been getting these connection errors about 2 games every day and it happens on both xbox and pc, seems to happen more on pc, but that could just be because the game is different.

Could this just be because there is another player in the gme crapping up my connection, it only happens to me in shadowrun, but happens to everyone in gears. Or is there something that I could do to fix this. I have SBC/ATT u-vers (phone,tv,internet).

On a side note, the xbox is connected wirlessly and the pc is straight through the ethernet. Another side note, i remformatted my pc recently so im still on windows firewall and stuff, didnt put my pc in DMZ mode yet (but why would it affect the xbox).

Sorry if the post was a little lengthy and not to the point .

Good job with detail

I'd guess it's probably something funny with your modem or router. Power cycle the modem, and check to see if it feels hot (overheating is most common problem with modems). You could just power cycle the router as well, but personally i feel it would be better for you to reset it to factory defaults just incase it's memory has corrupted and this is the cause of the random problems.

Well the problem with that is (im not sure if its a router or modem, they called it a router while installing it) we have this big "Brain" in our basement which is our modem, and it has the cable for our tvs and the internet through it. They told us to never touchy : o power loss on that = bad and they have to come back to our house. (even tho we have had power outages and they never had to come over).

My pc is hooked up directly to it through a cord running all the way up to the 2nd floor and my xbox has the tiny xbox brand (router?) wirless thingy that hooks on the back but it couldnt be bad signal because it happens on my comp too thats hooked right up to it, and if its overheating wouldnt our tvs get funky too?

.......????? Brain........ i'm thinking the installer had no idea what he was actually installing, he just knew how to hook it up cause they showed him...... Sounds like a combination router, seperator, modem to me. Seperates the TV adn internet signal, then makes internet connection, then routes so the internet can be shared.... personally i'd reset it.... but if you're a cautious type of person, you could have the ISP come out and check your service.

lol yea, ill prolly just wait till tommorrow morning when they are at work to start pushing buttons, i know if a cable box itself looses power it can take up to 10 minutes for it to reset itself, much less the "brain"

I'm downloading the cod4 1.6 patch right now and im actually seeing where my connection errors would be with downloads too (i have a vista network gagdet that shows my down and up speeds on a graph and every 3 min it will go down to like 1KB/s then go back up to 180KB/s again, edit: it looks like a hear monitor at a hospital going up and down like that ) so that confirms its not a problem with the game or another player in the game crappin up the connection.
