SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -- Nvidia Corp. said Wednesday it has lowered its second-quarter revenue outlook, partly because of end-market weakness around the world.

Shares sank in after-hours trading as a result.

The company, which makes graphics chips, now expects sales of $875 million to $950 million. Analysts, on average, expect sales of $1.1 billion for the quarter ending July 27, according to a poll by Thomson Financial.

Nvidia cited end-market weakness, delays and price adjustments of its graphics processing unit products to respond to competition as reasons for the lower revenue.

The company also said it plans to take a charge of $150 million to $200 million during the quarter to cover anticipated warranty, replacement and other costs related to certain defective prior-generation products used in notebook computers.

Shares of Nvidia (NVDA) sank 20.9%, to $14.27, in after-hours trading. The stock had closed down 72 cents at $18.03.

and now we wait for ATI's market share to climb? This has to be about the worst news Nvidia has had in a pretty long while. I see all these headlines about them having "an answer" to ATI, but frankly, if you had an answer, don't you think they'd be giving it by now? I think they got caught with their pants down on this round.

The folks around here have been scratching their heads kind of waiting for this to happen ever since Nvidia started pushing G92 chips with different branding i.e 8800GT, 8800GTS 512, 9800GT, 9800GTX, 9800GX2....and on and on.

In the meantime, with their nose to the grind stone as they fought for survival, rival AMD/ATI delivered a monster...on time. A tsunami of bad news for the boys in green . What makes it disappointing is that they are trying to duck and hide from the fall out of their own mistakes. Unfortunately, look for the immediate future to be worse for Nvidia. They have not even started the "we are to blame for this" part of damage control yet.

For this round yes. But I think there will be many more rounds before this fight is over.

Yes in the first round ATI punched nVidia right on the nose - they are now in the corner crying and bleeding.

In a few minutes ATI will begin its "Swift multi-GPU kicking to the nuts" fighting style in which 2GB of DDR5 SPARTANS will be used to decimate the reproductive nVidia organs...

This isn't the first round, and arguably, nvidia has been winning for the past couple of years.

Until now...:swearing:
