Windoes Xp Help ! Can I clear Device manager ?? Look Plz

Im basically trying to get my sisters pc back up and running 100% or as close as possible. Where it is now isnt that great. BTW its a dimension e510 if it matters
What happened originally im not totally sure, either a virus or my neice, who admits to turning the PC off when "The Sims" stops responding habitually. As a result when the PC was rebooted it says Hal.dll is missing or corrupt.

I replaced the file and got the pc to boot but i have some issues.
1. for some reason it keeps coming up with 2 onboard video cards.
2. No standy by option when you go to shutdown
3. ISAPNP read data port cannot start Code 10 i think its a conflict because
4. There are like 14 things under system devices that say motherboard resources(installed but , no driver )
5. power save features dont work correctly
6. turns of like an old AT machine
7. I use diskeeper and it gives me a mmc error when i open it thru manage, it also wont check for updates for some reason

A few things i noticed today , when i booted to safe mode both video cards had resources to not have an exclaimation point whereas normally 1 does. also the PNPISA ReadDataPort thing still didnt work.

I think part of the root of some of my problems is the fact that if i expand computer in device manager it sAYS standart pc, but i cannot unistall that and let me choose something different. it did have AHCI and Standard but i removed AHCI and it never came back. Standard did not have an unistall option

Is there some way to release the drivers or something, i really dont want to reinstall the os , i might just let her deal with it but deep down i want to just fix it.

should i replace the hal.dll file again or is there something similiar i can do which will be rebuilt by the os ?? Looking for all suggestions except reinstall os.

Thats gonna take me a while to do so im really dreading it I guess let me ask now. the dell machine runs raid1 i , with 2 x 80GB hard drives. ill probably be better breaking that and using the second for storage correct. Im not really worried about fault tolerance , as i will regularly backup the system if i redo everything. Or will the HD performance take a hit. Im really not impressed with the speed now of reading the drives idk if ones goin bad or it was always that slow , maybe has to do with driver problems goin on but i thought it would be faster as a mirror then single. I guess also let me know the opinions about breaking up the mirror, im thinking i can put the backups right on the 2nd drive. Thanks

If you're getting that many errors there is a good chance the OS is corrupt past anything you could do. Re installation would be your best bet, and would take a much shorter time than investigation each problem.

I second Retrospekt's suggestion (although that's not what you wan't to hear) - backing up the existing data followed by a clean reinstall is the fastest and best solution. If the OS has been really corrupted, you don't know what other problems will crop up, down the line, even if you 'fix' these.

As for hard-shut downs, they can cause problems especially if NTFS happens to be writing to the MFT at that time. I suggest you run chkdsk (with the appropriate switch) to check for file system corruption before anything else.

Also,
-try the repair option using the original XP install disk?
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

You may still have to reinstall all the drivers.

RAID 1 is not for performance (RAID 0 is), so disabling it ought not to reduce your disk performance in any way.
