200mm on side of antec 900

Thread Starter
In the verry near future, i'm going to cable mod my antec 900 ala cyberdruid's way. While i'm busy with that i was wondering if i should do a mod like this. i have an extra 200mm antec big boy laying around here and i was thinking of placing it on the side of my case as an intake fan. I have an TRUE120 in the computer so i'll have to place it on the outside. That, sadly, isn't my biggest concern, the see-through glass is. If i go drilling in that and make a pattern that would allow a good airflow through it i think it'll shatter the plastic, thus forcing me to cut an entire opening in the glass plate, something i preffer not to.
Ofcourse a part of it will be placed over the iron part of it and i hope the plastic won't shatter at all! Does anybody have any idea how i should do this, or if i should do this at all? Would it increase performance, or would it just be an entire overkill action?

wait, are you talking about drilling a grill into your side window?

If you are I would probably suggest against doing that. because lots of things can go wrong, and it restricts airflow.

I say just trace the fan, cut out a big hole, and mount it there

(gonna look awkward as hell on the outside though , but then again this is overclock.net.... not Aesthetics.com lol)

As the post above suggested remove the stock window and mount a large window and mount the fan on that.

Option 2 is two use the plain metal panel (they are interchangeable) and skip the window.

so you advise to get out both of the windows and the grill and replace it with on big new window, then cut a hole in that and mount the fan. That sounds verry plausible. Would indeed look quite weird, i guess i'll have to make some sort of nice fan guard to slip over it to make it look more bad ass . Thanksfully i've also placed some red light tubes in the case that'll shine through it .
What kind of saw should i use to cut out the hole in the window? I'm not really that familiar with tools, but i'm verry keen to learn

I just started to mod my side panel a couple days ago too. Not quite finished yet, waiting for the fan (lol!). Anyways, you can either use a dremel or a holesaw. I had a hole saw so I decided to use that. I think a 4 1/2" holesaw is the one that fits a 120mm fan...well you can do the math and figure out what fits a 200mm! Unfortunately for me, I only had a 1 1/2" holesaw, and all I can say is the hole isn't the prettiest thing you've ever seen... Hopefully I can pretty it up when the fan gets here. I was surprised the acrylic didn't crack, just make sure you don't lean on it while you're drilling...I almost cracked it that way.

Yes it is two parts...I removed the one for the fan and put my 120 fan a bit lower just below the true...Take a close look at it and you will see..
