Well, the MBR on the XP drive will have turned into a Vista MBR that directs the CPU to boot from a different hard drive. So you'd have to replace it with the original XP one to get rid of Vista.
The Microsoft boot loader is all kinds of screwed up.
The boot process is:
MBR (Sector 0 on the first HD) <- this is where 3rd party boot loaders interrupt the process to give you a choice
Partition Boot Record (1st sector of a partition)
OS load <- this is where the MS boot loader interrupts the process to give you a choice.
So you have to rewrite the whole MBR to redirect the boot process to the partition XP is on if you get rid of Vista. With Acronis absolutely nothing has to change, all you have to do is erase it.Edited by Manyak - 7/7/08 at 4:27pm
