Best 30" monitor? - Page 2

Well, what about the 3008wfp, is there a standard and hc version of that? If so, which one should I get?

Hmm...$600 to integrate my monitor and TV...yes, no...where's my coin?

I see. That's strange then, I've ...acquired... several movies that I'm pretty damn sure weren't 720x480. And I'm also pretty sure that they're DVD only. Ah well. Anyways, any way to get movies at that resolution natively? Will I ever be able to? Is it worth upgrading from native 1080p for that 30" goodness?

There's no 3008wfp-hc if that's what you're asking. I'm almost 100% sure that the 3008wfp IS an hc model. The hc models added the wider gamut, and that's what it has.

The acquired movies could've been HDTV rips. That would explain DVD movies in higher quality. There are no "1600p" movies, so no native there, sorry . Will you ever be able to? Given advances in technology, probably. But by that point, you'll also probably have a new monitor. Moreover, at 30" you'd be hard-pressed to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p video.

IMO, it's not worth upgrading to 30" but that's partly because I'm poor and cheap. There are some pretty good 25.5/26" monitors if you want something larger than a 24 that run 1920x1200 though (NEC LCD2690WUXi, Planar PX2611W, and Doublesight DS-263N. All 3 have the same panel, but different warranties. The Doublesight is also getting a refresh soon.). You can also look into 30"+ 1080p HDTVs, but I can't really help you in that area.

Why not Pickup a 42" plasma for $1000, and connect using VGA?

IMO, 42" is entirely too big for normal desktop usage. Unless you're only going to be gaming from your couch or something...

Dude tbh I'd go for a nice LCD tv or Plasma. Then you get Blu Ray res and nice gaming res.

This TV will be mine soon enough.

We have one on display at work and it is gorgeous. I saw no lag in any of the demo movies and the Touch of Color bezel is beautiful.

No TVs for me, sorry. I'll be using this for PC gaming as well, and we all know that 1600p on a 30" will kick the **** out of the same game on an xbox on a 42" with 1080p.

Really? It'd be hard to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 30", even if it's about a foot and a half to two feet from you? It will be my monitor after all, I'll enjoy it taking up my whole field of vision. By the way, how would 1080p resized look? Bad? Acceptable? Barely a difference?

I MIGHT get a nice 1920x1200 monitor, but why not just go for the full 30"? I mean, I'm 17 with a job (finally) and it's either my PC or illegal substances >_>. I'll be helping my mom with bills, saving some for college, but I have nothing to spend the rest on, so might as well pimp my rig. Yeah, I'm not poor, I'm not rich, I'm just in a good position in life right now. I've been stuck with 2 19" 1280x1024 (which is a decent setup, don't get me wrong, besides the 60Hz of course which is slowly but noticeably killing my eyes), and I think I should go (nearly) all out. I'm really hesitant to go all out and get that 3008 though...$600...is there another 30" that has a scaler, for a better price? I'd really like component inputs and such, for my consoles, but if it's not worth it...

If you can tell the difference, you have better eyes and/or are more discerning than most. 1080p resized will look just fine somewhere between great and barely a difference.

The reasons to not go 30":
1) Scaler adds input lag (the 3008 has about 2-3 frames more input lag than the 3007wfp-hc, which has no scaler)
2) Driving the monitor at full res will generally take a lot of GPU power.
3) Large premium. There's about $1200 between the Doublesight 26" and the Dell 30". You could basically get 2x26" 1920x1200 monitors for less than a single 30".

Reasons to go 30":
1) E-penis
2) Uber high resolution allows for lots of screen real estate
3) Larger physical screen size lets you watch from farther away (though the difference between the 30" and 24-26" may not be noticeable at typical viewing distance for a monitor)
4) E-penis.

As for other 30" panels with scalers, I believe the Gateway XHD3000 has a scaler, but that uses a S-PVA panel as opposed to the Dell's IPS. With *VA panels, you lose some detail, especially with darker colors. They also typically have more input lag. If you're going to be spending over a grand, you may as well get the best panel. Doublesight has a new 30" coming soon, so if you can wait a little while, I would. Waiting may also get you a better deal on the Dell should you choose that route...Dell usually has a decent back-to-school sale.

bleh, don't get "lcdtv"s. 1080p is only 1920x1080 resolution. And if its a larger screen diameter than necessary, you are looking at huge pixels and being forced to play at 10 yards.
