Best 30" monitor? - Page 3

Yeah, I'll probably blow the paycheck I get at the beggining of September on this as I want to upgrade PSU, mouse, keyboard, and sound card, so I can most likely wait. So what is this about scalers adding lag? Will it make a noticeable difference between the audio and video? And there can't be a $1200 difference, as the 3007 is only $1399, and the cheapest 24" I can recall is $400+. But I am thinking it would be better to just get the 3007, as the scaler's input lag...plus the premium seems not worth it. I could always get a top of the line TV tuner or component to VGA converter if necessary...no?

And so my GPU uses a lot of power...that's why I got one with a 3 year warranty >_>. Good thing the HD4850's fan can increase speed.

if you get the 3007 get it from Costco, it's a good deal there and you also get a GREAT return policy if you by chance get dead pixels now or in the future.

Well, for the 1200 I was comparing the 3008 with the DS-263N, but you get the idea.

Scaler lag can make rhythm games (Guitar Hero and the like) unplayable, but all the new ones have lag compensation in-game. You probably won't notice during console gaming, but you may notice it during FPS gaming. I can't really tell you how much input lag is too much for you as everyone is different on that.

The 3007 only accepts DVI-D and if it works at all, it'll be in 720p. From what I've read, the 360 won't work on it, the PS3 MIGHT, and other consumer devices I have no clue. Converters won't help you unless they can scale the signal for you...and I'm pretty sure any stand-alone scaler will cost more than the difference between the 3007 and 3008.

By GPU power I meant "horsepower", not power as in "watts". You'll basically be on an upgrade treadmill for the life of the monitor as new games come out. Though with ATI's performance this generation, you may be ok for a little while .

I use multiple NEC LCD3090WQXi-BK displays. S-IPS panels, so that wont let you down there. I highly recommend them.

More expensive than the 3008, but certainly a better monitor. Seems to have lower input lag and a better scaler.

Yeah...I think the 3008 is as expensive as I want to go, thanks for the input though gr1mo.

Hmm...so 3007 or 3008. Well, considering I have at least a month to wait, I'll think it over. But I think I'll be going for that 3007. I can just play consoles in my living room. Or add on a 24" with component cables at one point. Heretic, thank you greatly for all of your help. I hope you're still around in a month or two when I make another topic for my final decision to see if the market has changed.

Off topic, but I'm new (well, I signed up a long time ago, but just started coming often) to overclock.net, what's this Rep thing? Is it like a thanks for helping? What are it's rules and such?

I'll be sure to at least try and get a post from you before I buy my monitor. Maybe get a G9 to go along with it. Anyways, thanks again for all the help.

This is nothing I would kid around about, a 30" display is very important. Why confine your screen to a mere small box, when you can let it feel much more open and natural. I do a LOT of things with my PC including photoshop and Sony Vegas. I need every pixel that is offered. Not mention that games will be GENERATED at the 30" resolution! Thats WAY over twice what the Xbox 360 can even produce(I don't believe most of the games on there are actually generated@1080p). I probably could do without AA in games as well. Total immersion.

But I have a question, are the 30"s were talking about 16:10 or 16:9? I REALLY REALLY do NOT want a 16:10 again.

They're 16:10. I don't know of any computer monitors that are 16:9.
