AMD Opinion

Thread Starter
Okay, so just a few days ago, I realized that my cpu is slowing my video cards full potential. I am planning to OC my cpu to atleast a good amount in the 2GHZ part, but I only have stock cooler, but I heard that my BE 2300 is good for OCing. I am planning to get a 6000+ in August, but right now I am focused on ocing this baby. Can someone tell me if they had this cpu already and give me some opinions on the cpu and how far I can reach with a stock cooler.

Assuming your motherboard can do 300mhz+ FSB (which it can) that chip will top out around 3-3.3Ghz.

You'll need better cooling to break 2.8Ghz though...
that chip should hit 2.8 on stock cooling and decent volts. I would still consider upgrading though, as its a VERY low-end chip and even the modest brisbane 4200+ kills it brutally.

I would suggest 5600+ or 6000+ but as ive said many times DONT go 6400+ as its just an overclocked 5600/6000 and will NOT oc very well past 3.4 (3.5 in a FEW cases)

Running 5000+ black edition solid at 3.2 GHz, some have even broke 3.3 GHz. Paid 57 bucks for it on EBay, just had to watch the auctions for about a week. Product was brand new in the box, still sealed.

Looks like Newegg deactivated the 5000+ BE, can't order it from them as of this morning. Tiger has them in stock for 77 bucks though. For sure a nice budget chip and good power:dollar ratio.

How can a CPU slow a video card down?

Any Dual Core AMD CPU running at 2ghz and up will not bottleneck any system, in gaming terms at least.

There is not enough implementation of physics engines in games currently that would demand high end CPUs.
And even in some games that have increased Physx acceleration, shouldnt be much of a problem considering NVIDIA has built in Physics processing units.
