New computer, need help/suggestions. - Page 3

If you get the e8400 you can overclock it easily to 3.6ghz on stock cooling and possibly stock volts (some OCN'ers have posted screenshots of stable 3.6 on stock volts and cooling) if you decide to get a aftermarket cooler you can push to 3.8 easily and many have had success getting to 4.0ghz with ease (i am one of them)

with RAM, the gskill that you choose is a good set. I used it in my old rig and put it in my sig rig and i havent had any problems with it.

If you go with an aftermarket cooler the arctic freezer 7pro has suited me fine. Also the xigmatek-s1283 has gotten some great reviews and are priced lower than the TRUE and TT. I personally wish i would of went with the xigmatek-s1283 over the arctic freezer 7pro after seeing some bench tests.

With the E8500 at the same price pretty much as when I was going to get the E8400 should I just get that? It has a higher multiplier right? Also, should I maybe go with the X48 instead of the X38 lanparty? Someone told me the 48's much better for overclocking than the 38. Also, would any backplate for a cooler work with the vendetta2?

E8500 has a higher multiplier and +.16 clock speed. Go for that over E8400, and DFI mobo's are more for ADVANCED overclockers and are not that user friendly in the BIOS.

I'd suggest going ASUS because their BIOS are pretty easy to navigate around and figure out, as well as Gigabyte, but their boards arent as strong as ASUS.

Hey there,

For the mobo, I would recommend a Gigabyte or ASUS as they have very user-friendly BIOS' and do OC very well (more-so the ASUS over Gigabyte).

For the CPU, I would recommend the Quad if you plan on keeping this rig for more than two years, if not, then go for the E8400/8500.

I love my Quad as is (currently at 3.25ghz) and it is extremely fast in everything it does. Plus you're probably coming from something a lot older than either of these CPU's, so I wouldn't worry.

RAM - G. Skill is great, and I believe it's one of the most popular OC'd RAM on the forum. Can't go wrong.

Good luck!
