Noctua NH-U/C12P - Page 49

Hey all, this shouldn't be too off topic, I want to lap my Noctua, I am only worried about one thing though,
If I take out the micro grooves and smooth down to copper, won't that make the gap a bit bigger between the HS and the CPU once mounted, I want to use some MX-2 and really drop my temps a couple Celsius.

Help will be appriciated with rep.

As long as you do a decent lap job, you have nothing to worry about. You will still have about the same amount of pressure on the CPU, since the springs provide the force. So as long as you do a good job of keeping the lap job flat, you should be fine.

I personally don't think you will get that much of a temp drop. 2C at most. But if you lap that i7 you will see another 2-3C drop.

Hm, Antec has the Tricool 120mm fan in Red, but they're $15 a piece and still only 79CFM max.

Why can't I find an 88cfm Yate Yoon in Red!?!?

I was thinking about getting the TRUE but it doesn't fit in a Cosmos S w/ out modding the fan, Will the Noctua fit in a Cosmos? From what I've read the TRUE is better but I don't really feel like cutting part of the side fan in my case so I might just get the Noctua (probably few degrees above a TRUE)

The TRUE and Noctua are about the same size. TRUE is 160.5mm tall, the Noctua is 158mm tall. Just ditch the side fan.

Why do you need a side fan? Doesn't help with temps at all in my case, just adds more dust.
