they're inaudible when at lower speeds. but when cranked up high yes, they aren't quiet. it's not that bad of a trade-off though. u lose 2-3C but it's almost half the dB; and since dB are logarithmic that's a gigantic perceptible difference.

I still wish i coulda gotten the push/pull for $65 though. since a 2 fan setup doesnt increase noise if they both dont have vibration or backpressure. drops the temp by 3-4C at load.

yea i looked at their site you ahve to send a JPG of the invoice for a i7 board to get it. So, if they still offer that when i get mine that'll be great. But that could be a year from now and no idea if they'll even still have the program then. A lot of companies discontinue things like that. EVGA discontinuing the free DVI -> HDMI converter for the 9800GTX+ series for example (even though they still don't supply one w/ new cards despite advertising it as HDTV compatible).

But unless you hook it up to a fan controller then its always on full isn't it? We are on about the stock fan on the NH-U12P arn't we......?

There's 2 adapters that come with the heatsink that reduce the RPM and noise of the fan. The thing at full blast is hardly loud though...it hardly blows any air on full anyway...couldn't imagine slowing it down even more.

Ahh ok, been awhile since I fitted mine, don't remeber see the adapters..... meh. Mines on full and is easily the quietest fan in my case. others are 3 tri-cools with blue LEDs on medium, the big 200mm fan in the top of the case on high, 2 fans in my PSU and the fan on my HD4850. You get used ot the noise, I can even sleep with it on, never goes off lol

it comes w/ a 9v & 7v resistor cable u can use. varies from about 15dB w/ 7v - 33dB at 12v @ 1m. however depending on how sturdy your case is and how thick the steel/aluminum is that can bw lower. but 33dB isnt really just twice as loud as 16.5dB. it's frequency weighted to human perceptibility; not so much sound pressure. 11dB is twice as loud as 10dB & so on.. so u can see it's a big difference. & yes it is still quiet at full tilt compared to other fans, but not silent.

30dB is 60x (6,000%) louder than 10dB in raw sound pressure; but perception wise it's even higher than that.

for ex. 10dB is about how loud sedentary breathing is. 40dB is about how loud talking to someone is. a car driving by is about 60dB. hearing damage occurs at 85dB.

mine is supposed to be here tomorrow along with some artic silver 5!!! I can't freakin wait.

Question, should i go ahead and purchase another noctua fan for push/pull for my setup, or should i go with some different fans in push/pull? I am wanting to get this phenom 940 to 3.8ghz-4.0ghz prime stable!

How much difference would it make to lap the cpu and heatsink?

I can't imagine how you put up with any other fan in the industry if the Noctua's bother you

Ok, lets help you out here a bit if you want a chance at getting that Phenom II stable, since they need to run cool to clock high like that. First of all, no AS5. IC7 diamond and MX-2 both beat it by a couple C at least.

Second, you'll need ONE high CFM fan if you want to hit high clocks like that on a quad and keep it cool. Push pull isn't needed when you have that much static pressure. Noctua fans, even 2 of them , won't cut it however. Find a high CFM 120x38mm fan. Something made by panaflo, delta, or my favorite, san ace.

Finally, lapping the CPU and heatsink will improve temps by a few C. More if one or both surfaces are very uneven.
