I got my noctua in yesterday I put it on the but the temps aren't as low as I think they should be, probably used too much tim...

But anyways, how do you keep the hs from moving while screwing in the screws? I tried holding it, but it still moved around a little bit. Is it alright if it moves around a little bit?

My temps weren't that great until I lapped the Noctua and my CPU, and got a better fan than the stock one. Maybe you have a Noctua with a un-flat base like mine?

About screwing it in...do it one turn at a time on each screw to make it go down evenly. I've never had trouble with it moving around.

It is fine if you hold it down. When applying TIM use a moderate amount since that is what is directed. Too little is really bad. I haven't noticed a big difference between a lot of TIM and a moderate amount. A lot meaning it is close to overflowing when you tighten the screws.

The mounting system is pretty sold and won't be moving around when it is secured so don't worry. Also, note that the Noctua TIM is decent especially since it is free.

By using less TIM I dropped my temp by 3c.

I just finished re-seating my heatsink. I know you guys need ambient temp, but I have no way of telling that lol(no thermometer to be found). It's 78 degrees outside, so my guess is that the ambient in here is around 80-85 degrees (~27-30 celcius)

My cpu temps are 36/36 idle (doesn't read below 36 for some reason) and load after 20 min 53/48. Load definitely dropped, but not as much as I thought it would(was only ~60/56 before).

Does that look right, or should I do it again?

Edit: I reseated it again, used a little less, and now I'm down to 50/46 load. Woot!

Noctua states that their coolers are designed for thick TIM so if you have something like AS5 then you don't need to put a lot on it for the best performance. Since I use OCZ Freeze then I need a bit more since is a much thinner TIM than AS5.

Also, if he plans on lapping then you would need even less TIM since more would make things uneven and defeat the purpose of lapping (he didn't state if he was planning to lap or not).

Anyway nice pictures and are those fan shrouds? Would be good to go for 38mm fans if your going to use shrouds. Are you getting a lot of turbulence? That fan setup seems like there would be a lot of noise.
