Noctua NH-U/C12P - Page 75

yah those are fan shrouds. I actually have two panaflos on their way to me to replace those 25mm scythe fans I'm using (thanks to ljason8eg for the suggestion). I don't think I get turbulence, but I wouldn't know... how do you test for it?

Well, it's already noisy since it's an antec 1200 case lol. Even with all the fans on minimum, it's still relatively noisy(in my opinion). So, i just leave all the fans on max... after a while you don't notice it anymore lol. Eventually I'm going to replace all the antec fans green ones, but that's another project for another day

Also, if he plans on lapping then you would need even less TIM since more would make things uneven and defeat the purpose of lapping (he didn't state if he was planning to lap or not).

Anyway nice pictures and are those fan shrouds? Would be good to go for 38mm fans if your going to use shrouds. Are you getting a lot of turbulence? That fan setup seems like there would be a lot of noise.
And? A) mine is lapped. B) I used the Noctua paste. Thus, I used less and it was better. Moving on...

So I got some Ultra Kaze 3000RPMs today.

It's a bit over done, but I got 4 of them and realized they wouldn't fit anywhere else in my case. Prime95 load temps drop 5C with the fans at full blast compared to the 2 Noctua fans I had on there. Running them at around 1500rpm they are almost as silent as the Noctuas and save me about 2C with full load.

I wanted to get something a bit nicer than the Ultra Kaze, but at $7.50 each I couldn't justify spending ~$20 a piece for some of the better ones.

I have one by itself and it is killer. What exaclty is better? Are you talking about quieter or moving more air? They could be a bit quieter but hey, its fast.

Better build quality, higher static pressure, ball bearings instead of sleeves, much quieter.

Something like this (the fan i use on mine)

Just lapped my Noctua today an I was surprised that my temps dropped 5c on the MAX temps and average temps were about 8c lower. I almost want to lap my CPU now but I may wait a bit just to make sure i dont need that warranty soon. I must admit, I was expecting maybe 2-3c but an 8c drop on my average temps isnt too shabby.

Those are some great drops in temps. May have to do it with mine, as it's still sits warm at idle (87F), temps I was getting with an Alpha PAL on a P4 (but it was lapped and polished).

Yeah, both my noctuas really needed lapping as well. The bases were pretty flat, but they were "wavy" like, which isn't great as far as temps are concerned. I saw a large drop just like you with both my noctuas.
