What causes a man to buy a Phenom?

This isn't an attempt to start a flame war for the record, but i'd like to know what compels Phenom users to buy a Phenom in the first place, especially for a build from scratch. Genuine reasons please.

I'd consider myself an AMD fan boy, or at least I would have done when I built my current three year old system, but I don't see what the advantage of building a Phenom system could be. In the UK, the Q6600 is cheaper than the cheapest four core Phenom, so price doesn't seem to the reason, at least of the CPU itself? Overclocking, i've seen all evidence pointing to the Intels being faster etc. so why?

Reasons from current/past Phenom users only please.

not really so....

as I have pointed out I own 6 AMD (AM2) rigs and 1 Intel rig (Q6700) and while the Intel rig is faster at 99% of things it's not really faster in some things like gaming....

this rig....
Biostar 7050-M2 HDMI
5000BE 2.8ghz
7600gt
SataI 74gig (71kb/s)

loads faster in some games than this rig....

Asus P5E-VM HDMI
Q6700 3.0ghz
9600gt
Sata II 640 AAKS (95kb/s)

I cannot tell you why the AMD rig loads faster but it does.....but only by a second or 2

when gaming you cant tell a difference between the 2 rigs....

both are on fresh installs with latest drivers (fastest drivers at that)

Cant tell a difference between 7600 and a 9600?
I think it's time to play something other than CS 1.6

That still doesn't explain it in my opinion.
Anybody else? =P

I can tell you why it loads faster, its because you are using a Raptor in it.

And if you can't tell the difference in gaming between those two video cards then you must be running at 640x480 or something.

@Torched-geek: The only real advantage is the integrated memory controller. It helps with a few things, but its effect on overall performance is absolutely negligible.

..................

Waste of a good computer to be playing Counter Strike.

And on topic, there is no reason to buy one. The Q6600 is faster, cheaper, overclocks better, runs cooler, and is just better in general.

To support AMD I would think.

The Spider platform? If you get a Phenom, 790FX, and HD4870 you have a nice, stable, fast gaming system. May not matter as much to us enthusiasts, but for people that really want their computer to just work, I guess it's comforting.

I've built three Phenom systems for people I know (who requested AMD), and part of the reason was that if they're GPU limited in gaming, the processor doesn't matter. Actually, in some cases the Phenom can be better for gaming.

The reasons for choosing between a Phenom and a C2Q boil down to what you mostly do with your PC. If you don't do a lot of media encoding, there's no huge advantage to getting a C2Q, unless it's cheaper of course. They aren't as terrible chips as they're made out to be, but they aren't always going to be the best solution either.

I'm sorry, but as a apathetic consumer, whoever the hell can get me the best bang to buck, gets to slip some cash out of my wallet.
