Budget Build

Thread Starter
Still new here. Couldnt figure out exactly where to post build plans but i think they go in this section.

On a tight budget around 500 USD. I dont need HD, Case, OS, Keyboard + Mouse and monitor (for now). Heatsink will come sometime in august.

Heres the plan. I tried to color code it (the more redish, the more unsure i am of the part i chose. Green means im pretty sure thats what i want):

CPU: E7200 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115052
Pretty sure this is the CPU I want. Hoping to overclock it a good bit.

MOBO: GIGABYTE EP35-DS3L http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128337
I've heard good things from friends about this board. Its a good overclocker right?

GPU: GIGABYTE Radeon HD3870 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125086
A little sketch here. Thats a cheaper 3870...is that bad? Never heard much (neither good nor bad) about Gugabyte graphics cards-how are they? Is it worth another $20 to get the diamond?

RAM: G.Skill 2GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231098
Bummed im only getting 2GB but I'm on a budget. If you can find good 4GB for around $50, id be stoked but i didnt see any (has ram gotten more expenisve ).

PSU: Thermaltake Purepower 500W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817153052
Pretty clueless as far as PSUs go. This one got bunches of good reviews on newegg...

DVD: LiteON IDE http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106228
Went ide on purpose, its gotta hook up to current comp first so i can burn a few DVDs. I dont use DVD drive much. How much speed is lost in IDE vs SATA?

Total is 480ish for those of you interested (not including MIR). Looking to use it for moderate gaming (not planning on playing crisis on crazy settings or anything like that. I know this hardware has its limitations)

Thanks,
Jake

Imo no diffrence will be noticed, current ATA drives work at 100 or 133MB/s, and SATA at 150 or 300MB/s, DVD ROM or DVD-RW only read/write at about 20 to 30MB/s. The only advantage would be cable space and neatness.

Thanks.
Someone else recomended that ram as well. I get a little nervous with rebates, itd be a bummer not to get it back.

What about 9600GT? Would that be a better choice than an HD3870. It seems to do better in the benchmarks ive seen.

I'd get this PSU over both if you don't mind the rebate.

If you're going by the $100 after rebate price, that 3870 is hard to beat on value (unless you go to used hardware). At the price of that GT or GTS, I'd go for a 4850. You should be able to find one for around the same price after coupon/rebate.

This motherboard is getting recommended a lot around here and if you're looking to OC, DFI is one of the best in that department. The Gigabyte is also a pretty good board, so it's up to you.

RAM has indeed gotten a little more expensive as supply goes down to meet actual demand. It will only get more expensive aside from a few sales (maybe a couple during back to school season and then during Black Friday/Christmas season).
