Well, true, point taken. But I don't really pay attention to the low end all that much. That would be good for building a budget PC, but not many of us do that, do we?

The fact that killer performance cards can be had at any price point $200 and up is pretty amazing. I don't recall that being the case the last time I built a rig. I paid $400 for my spankin' new 6800GT way back when, and at the time I don't recall there being anything in the $300-and-lower price range that I considered a viable alternative considering the games I wanted to run.

I betcha the 4850X2, since it's not an ATI designed card, will simply be a crossfire-on-a-stick card like previous X2s....

This is probably to throw off nvidia and make them think "well, the 4870X2 is only going to be about 15% faster than that right?"

When in actuality the 4870X2 will most-likely be much more than a simple crossfire-on-a-stick setup

That depends. If you already own a 4850 I think you'll do pretty well, if not you'll probably still do alright.

i doubt it i think its this card is gonna be exaclly the same as the 4870x2 but with GDDR3 ram swapped in. ATI made a good dual gpu design on the 4870x2, y not carry it on to the 4850x2?

a 4870 is 1.2x the performance of a 4850
a 4850x2 should be 1.7-1.9x the performance of a 4850 depending on how well the bridge chip will actually work.
Yeah this thing will be well worth the 100$ more than the 4870, especially if the bridge chip is what they say it is, this thing will be 15% faster that 4850s in xfire.

That is retarded, I've gotten defective products from AMD, Kingston, PNY, ATI, Nvidia, asus, MSI, DFI, and Thermalake. That doesn't mean I should boycot the whole PC industry. If it's a joke, sorry. If not.....lame.

the only cards i had die on me are ATI's. i wont trust them untill they prove otherwise. However, i will probably give 2 5870X2's a chance to do so in my future Nehalem rig.
I would also prefer not to be called retarded nor lame. A card should not die from being in use. Especially not after just 4 years, stock, in a well ventillated case. I ordered a Geforce 8400GS to replace it, and expect it to last like my GeForce 4 is still doing after more than 6 years in a non-ventillated case.
It's like how i'll never buy a Maxtor anymore after several died, in favor of Seagate.
Either way, events have proven my trust right time after time.

I have the money to buy a $500 card, the only problem is making myself spend that much money on a gpu I can't decide whether I want to spend $300 on a 4870 and have to upgrade in two years, or whether I want to buy a 4870x2 for $500 and not have to upgrade for another two years (hopefully.) Hmm, decisions decisions.
