For a soundcard, one of the new mid-range offerings from Asus may be a decent choice. From what I've seen so far they have sound quality that rivals or beats the Creative offering, and has much better driver support/minimal OS conflicts.

Stick with onboard for now. A soundcard is a quick and easy addition later if you're too annoyed with onboard.

Thanks for the recommendation chozart, ill look into that asus board, looks nice but i wont be using crossfire.

And what about the abit ip35 pro xe? its pretty solid i see, but still pcie 1.1, (will be using a 4870x2, so that might bottleneck it)

It's based on the P45 chipset, and does have dual PCI-E x16 2.0 slots. It will run crossfire, but limited at x8, x8. However, that should be enough for Crossfired HD 4870's (note that it's x8, x8 in PCI-E x16 2.0).
hes getting a 4870x2 u misread still shouldnt be a issue with the board u mentioned. i still think its worth spending the extra bucks on a x board. why spend 500 on the graphics then skimp out on the mobo. whats the point of having a incredible card if your not going to have everything else match its qaulity &_&. i may just be behaving silly on the trying to jam a better mobo down your throat keep in mind the final decision is yours and if you think im wrong i am.

if its going to be well over 2 years before you can upgrade again you might want to consider getting a q6600 or 6700 as games will become qaudcore reliant in around that period of time. just something to consider you dont want to end up with a obsolete system ^_^

They are less exspensive, they come with a fan, and are excellent coolers. They both best what you have already mentioned

I think that for a SINGLE card solution, the P45 is a better choice in terms of overclocking capabilities than an X series board. It's the same as in the past with 975X v. P965. The X is the high end line, but the P is a generation ahead (most notable in the Southbridge, whereas the 38X/48X has the ICH9R, while the P45 has the ICH10R).

If I am collecting parts for a rig with a single GPU, I'd pick a P45 board, like the asus I linked over an X38/X48 board, and not because of the price

Wildfire's first post was post #4 in the thread, and I clearly notice the Corsair PSU in that list. Your first post is #17 in the thread. Sorry, but Wildfire was the first one mentioning that PSU.
