static electricity?

post #1 of 5
Thread Starter
I live in an apartment where pretty much only the kitchen isn't carpeted. I will put everything together on a wooden table. As far as I know wood doesn't conduct electricity but I'll be standing on the carpet... I already have an anti-static wristband so should I be ok or am I just being paranoid?

You'll be fine. Just touch something metal before you touch any of your components. I work on a carpet most of the time. Never a problem, just ground yourself.

You should be fine, but if you want to be extra sure. Have the case nearby and touch it every so often to 'discharge' yourself.

If you want to be REALLY paranoid, make the build in bare feet. At any rate, I've made several builds on a wooden table also, and then made on the fly adjustments in a room with carpet. I use no protection (har har), and all my parts have come through without any problems.

You'll be fine, don't wear a shirt or any socks if you're really suspicious.
Electrical components aren't as sensitive as people make them out to be.
