OT: If Radeon owners can't use PPU files, that is unfair. But if Nvidia has found a way to make their system better than ATi's without limiting ATi users then I think it is completely fine. Either way, I hope Nvidia can explain itself.
Nvidia didn't "find a way to make their system better than ATi's", they simply programmed their driver .exe's to STEALTH MODIFY .dll's inside a THIRD PARTY PROGRAM THAT THEY DO NOT OWN.

This ultimately ruins the entire purpose of the benchmark, which is to provide a baseline or "all else equal" way of comparing two systems.

The real question is, did the programmers of 3DMark know about Nvidia doing this? Maybe they received incentives to keep their mouth shut?

If futuremark had any knowldge of this and if its true if they do nothing to stop it then any 3dmark now means nothing to me since one company could have a secrete advantaage. In taht case ill stick to games which are biased to becuase companies pay to have them optimized for them. So pretty much there is no fair benchmark lol.

Stupid question:

If your using vantage to compare cards, won't the modified files screw with the score if an ATI card takes the test?

Hmm.

The way it sounds, it sounds like it just disables any Physics card you have and uses the Nvidia card. Inserting a radeon card with a physics card will make it try and disable the physics card and use the nvidia one. Since there is no nvidia one, it wouldn't work or something.

Alright now they cheated in Crysis and now they are directly editing the benchmarks. This is going way too far. Something has to be done by Futuremark.

Again, if the stuff makes a general game (perhaps Crysis, CoD series or Quake or something) pump out more Frames per second then I would say that it is a better card. Ergo, a better card gets a better score. And if they do it via changing the original files so be it.

For a game its one thing but the benchmark was not intended for the physics to be offloaded to the gpu. Therfore this comprimises the integrity of the benchmark. This way it makes it seem like nvidia cards are more powerfull in this benchmark when they are not becuase the benchmark was not intended to run that way. If futuremark patches vantage to allow for physics to be offloaded then it is fair game but since it doesnt then its not fair for the purpose of the benchmark.

Well, I guess Nvidia didn't want to wait for Futuremark to catch up with their extreeeeem physx technology
