Are you talking about upgrading the cpu? or flashing a BIOS for a higher cpu? I just bought this all a couple weeks ago, no upgrades are in the near future. Nearest upgrade will probably be a second gpu when the new generation cards release and the 8800 become cheap cheap cheap.

The Video RAM and memory RAM comment was in response to some posts which said the max of any RAM total i could have with 32-bit xp was 4gb. Who is right?

I ran ntune on my gpu, it modified some of the gpu memory timings and other settings. Is ntune any good? You mention AIgear and AIprobe sucking, i was using AiBooster, is it the same level of suck?

I'm new to this all and the guy who was helping me pick things refuses to OC anything, so i guess he picked components that are good without the OC. I didn't consider this much at the time, but now i just want to make my comp zoom zoom.

I'm getting a better idea of whats going on. Originally I kinda randomly modified things (only slightly) but when i have some time this weekend i'll go through some of the official OC guides.

Thanks for putting up with my noobness

after bumping up the cpu to 3.150 ghz and running the quick (20min) ntune got 3dmark06 to 10611 total, 2415 cpu (from 10307, 2282). I'm making improvements! waiting for my cooler to arrive to do anymore OC

J_syk, Fossil is referring to flashing the BIOS. By flashing the bios to a newer version you'll have the ability to run a Phenom processor.
Your correct about the 4GB of memory and your operating system. I believe Windows XP (32-bit) only see's and uses up to 3.25 - 3.5GB of memory.
I personally have never ran nTune but I have heard many horror stories about the application. Quite a few individuals have experienced data corruption when trying to overclock via software. In regards to video card overclocking I don't see nTune being a problem. I've always used ATITool when it came to video card overclocking.

Make sure your also testing for stability after you overclock. Programs such as OCCT and Orthos are great for stability testing. With OCCT, the default 1 hour test is sufficient. Orthos kind of takes a little longer. I usually run the blend test at priority 9 for at least 8-9 hours.

Good job on the 06 score

Good luck!

I've been using EZflash to find the newest and flash it. i don't recall what number my bios is, but i think it was last updated sometime like march 08.

I need to get some more games to see what the performance is like. I can run CS and DoD, etc very well. But my primary game is WoW and i'm getting that good of a frame rate in raids, even with some graphics settings turned down. I get enough that it's not important, but i'd love to see it 50+ all the time instead of 25+

Have you tried reinstalling WoW?

J_syk, are you referring those numbers as your actual FPS in WoW? Perhaps your running really high AA in your games and that is why your seeing a decrease in performance? I know DOD and CS default to 2x AA after they are installed.

Good luck

those are fps, but i'm pretty sure it maxes out at 60. One time i saw it blip to 62 for a second when i was staring at a wall.
any players will attest to the fact that it's not easy to get high fps. In raids there are a lot of things happening and a lot of variables to be processed.
my laptop (was my only comp) used to get about 9fps on some boss fights. that was fun...

I'll take a look at the AA. Maybe make a profile through nvidia settings to force it lower

Set the AA in nvidia control panel as application controlled...you should be getting alot higher for WoW...I get max it out @ 60 with my laptops 8600M GT.

Doesn't WoW use Vsync as default?? IIRC

All of the settings on my video card are default right now, which means most are application-controlled. Should i change some things? and if so are there guides for all the settings and stuff?

I looked up a bit about WoW and the 4850, and there seems to be poor performance all round.

Try updating your Bios and Chipset drivers.
