Your looking for desktop replacement so go with the Gateway. Better specs and cheaper cost and 2 more gigs of ram FACTORY INSTALLED!

Good idea.

I have a lot of experience with Gateway desktops, and they are the crappiest waste of resources ever.

Unreliable, very very poor engineering, and just a pain. Their support is also third rate.

I don't know about their laptops (my work only has Dell's left and alive, no more gateways out of 20 ordered 2 years ago) but they seem just "OK", no Toshiba, or Dell, but I suppose they get the job done.

My experience with Dell and Alienware have just been superb. The Alien ware I have taken apart have all been nicely put together, and clearly designed to be easy to take apart and work on.

yes i agree with you the gateway on paper looks like a great deal but i did some more digging into the situation and i have found that they have always had a heating issue as in the air vents are not properly placed to vent out the heat on the other hand the alienware m15x( smaller version of the newly released m17x) has had a great cooling system as many have said. from the pictures adn the multiple videos i have seen of both laptops the alienware laptop both looks like it had more time put on it and it has the option of being upgraded at a later date as in if i want a blu ray player for my laptop buy the blu ray smart drive and just pop it in and its good to go... but no option like that for the gateway and if in the future i need a better video card i call up alienware order the part pop the back plate out and pop the new bad boys in and im good to go... no where in gateway do i see this flexibility and that meant alot to me and as i have said i will pay more for a system which will last me longer.

Thats exactly what i have been hearing about gateways and a few of my buddies from college had a gateway and they are either using macs or higher end Dells now. I saw somebody take apart the m15x damn its like they wanted peple to fiddle and do there own tweaks to the laptops. which is really nice because it bridges the gap between desktop and desktop replacement laptop for me and i like that
