Rig keeps resetting

Thread Starter
I'm getting really angry at my rig. I took it to my friends house last week, when I got there I pushed all the chips (ram, GPU, etc.) back in, just in case they got pushed around during the ride there. While I was there I formatted my XP partition and installed vista. Then on the ride back I got a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU cooler and a Coolermaster 500 PSU. I installed them and was very happy with the results in the computer overall. I downgraded the PSU (if you want to call it a downgrade) from some third party 525W to the coolermaster 500W and made a huge upgrade form the crappy aluminum non copper heat sink on my CPU originally.

After a few run ins with vista and about 30 random resets I gave up after a week, I reinstalled XP Pro. When I was on vista I had to use the drivers in vista for my video card because im on dial up and always use the Omega Drivers but there are currently none for vista.

I have been using XP again for about 2 days now and have still gotten about three or four random resets. I am led to believe it is my video card because the resets almost always happen now when I'm gaming or when I turn on ATI Tool. I pulled the entire rig apart today blew it out with compressed air and put it back together, the test was Black & White 2... I didn't even get past the tutorial before the reset...

This is angering me a lot and if anyone else suspects that the problem is not the video card forgive me for posting in the ATI section.

But I need help I really don't have the cash for a new video card, I got the PSU for free and the CPU cooler was a great price.

Any suggestions?

I pulled the CPU out again and saw that there was a little thermal paste over two of the pin contacts. I cleaned it off, no help it still resets.

goto system properties
select advance system properties
start up and recovery (settings)
check or uncheck auto restart
to see if there is a bsod

I did it and then I went to try Farcry with the HDR enabled. I didint even make it to the main menu and it reset without BSOD. then after that I tried Black & White 2 and it reset and came up with the error (not in BSOD just in POST)

RADEON X800 AIW ATOMBIOS

then I pressed the reset button and it came up reading only 512 of my RAM. I turned it off unplugged it pulled out both the sticks of RAM swapped them around pushed them in nice and tight and turned it on, It is reading 1024 RAM again but still resetting.

I hate cheap rigs...

EDIT: I have noised that Call Of Duty 2 runs almost perfectly Ive played for about 7 - 10 hours lately and only got 1 reset..

I now realize in my infinite wisdumb that I never did any real troubleshooting on my RAM. I will be running RAM test all night tonight.

I agree, something is seriously wrong there, probably ram. Amazing what one bad module will do to the entire system's performance and reliability. Let us know what you find!

Had a problemw ith some OCZ ddr2 800 that did the same thing. Set to 1T it would do that exact same thing. Pretty crazy. Memtest, memtest, memtest! Individual sticks, and I bet you'll find the bad one.

Also, double check your memory voltage. I wouldn't imagine that would be the problem, if it's ddr pc-3200, you should be running somewhere around 2.5-2.6v.
