i regretted going dual 6 months ago. i didn't make the same mistake and just got a Q9450. I didn't plan on overclocking over 3.2 anyways so the multitasking helps a lot.

i have a q9450 and 8800GTS...

i play BF2, and Cod4 on max settings with 50+ frames.

hmm, i said dual, only because he want to game with it, but i dont know to what extent. if you do some web browsing, folding etc. id go quad. but as it is only for 2 years, dual is good enough for that

I'm sure a 4850 with a 4850X2 will provide a boost, I'm just not sure how much of one. The 4850X2 will already be enough for most applications.

It really bugs me when someone uses the term "future-proof" because nothing is future-proof. Penryn will essentially become obsolete this winter when Nehalem debuts.

My stance doesn't change, though. If you have the money to reach for a Q9450 and keep everything else within your budget, by all means go for it. I'm guessing you won't see too much a difference in gaming with a Q9450 and E8400. Probably a handful of frames per second, but it shouldn't be noticeable.

I like the E8500 over the E8400.Because of the Multipliers.I also like the Q9300.But i think id get the 8400 and a Monitor in your case

I don't see why someone should pay $70 for an extra multiplier option.
