Help me upgrade

Thread Starter
Currently i have the following.

P5W DH Deluxe Motherboard
2 GB OCZ DDR2 Memory
X1900 XT 512MB Graphics Card

Is there anything worth keeping there? I need to buy a CPU but i think i need to update most parts of this system, i am looking at getting a HD 4870. What can i keep and what needs to go?

I use the machine for gaming mainly.

i thought that the PCIe v2 cards have problems running in PCIe v1.0a motherboards.
What is a good motherboard these days?

well if your sticking with ati you would want a p35/45, x38/48. I reccoment Gigabyte or asus for boards. The DFI LP Dark p35 is supposed to be really good and i love my x48 board. And 2.0 is backward compatiable there will be no problem running a 4850 in a pci-e 1 slot.

Get a p45 mother chipset, and pair it with a 4870 or 4850 or 4850x2 or 4870x2 when they come out
As for a processor, theres only 2 I can reccommend. The e7200, and the Q6600. Ill post links
E7200
Q6600

As for as motherboards go, there are many options available. I'll show you a few and what i reccommend
Tforce
Gigabyte
Asus
DFI

Asus:I like the P5Q the best out of the 3, because it has 2 pci-e 2.0 ports, and some power saving features.
Gigabyte: Good board, overclocks well, better power saving features, but only 2 pci-e ports
Tforce: Overclocking monster from what I heard, broke some records OCing an e8400 to 6.00ghz (with extreme cooling of course)
DFI: I don't know to much about this one. I do know DFI boards are for enthusiasts who like to push the envelope, again and again

Now if you were considering crossfire, PM me and I'll reccommend you some other nice boards that will do crossfire just right

Video Cards
4850 - Lifetime warranty can't go wrong there
8800gt 256mb - I'm a bit weary of the 256mb, but for the price, you won't be disappointed.

i would get the 4850 because your monitor is a 19" so 1280x1024 and the 4850 will max out any game at that resolution
