those wristbands are a joke, ive built over 5 PCs and never worn one, never had any static damage

but generally speaking your supposed to attack the ground strap to the case's bare metal (i think)

The case metal will work. As will any other ground (generally any piece of metal).

Unless you'll be building the PC while running around carpet with wool socks, I wouldn't worry too much about static discharge. Just ground yourself on the case before you start.

Any grounded metal will work, but unless you walk round all day on very fluffly carpet and stroke lots of cats you're probably not going to kill anything, but its best to be grounded just in case

No. If you don't have a PSU installed that isn't plugged in (but not turned on) it will be no use at all. You need a PSU in and plugged in for it to discarge the static. Seriously though, just stand on a wood/solid floor and wear bare feet (I know ) and ignore the wristband. I've built PCs for years without a wristband and have never had an ESD mishap.

Just don't drop anything on your feet . And keep off the carpet/fake fur.

Nah, any solid floor should be okay, the issue is carpet (as well as other sythetic materials) tends to build up static. So this does include clothing, so don't wear any shell suits or really thick jumpers and you will be okay .
