New XP updates 8/7/08 clash with zone alarm!

Hi all,

Just installed 2 security patches for XP sp2, they arrived on auto download today. Reboot, as always, and bingo! My internet connection is no longer working, first check switch off zone alarm, and once again my connection is back up. So i think the new patches have done something to my zone alarm, but i don't know what!! Does anyone have this problem, or know a fix?

cheers Oz

I never liked zonealarm but there must be a program trying to access and all is being blocked. Check you settings to see if something is different.

I really dont see the need to use a firewall either I would use threatfire it works in a similar manner.

Thanks dude, i couldn't figure out what the problem was, so for now i un-installed the XP update, and got zone alarm working again. I might check out threatfire, cheers.. Use my laptop on University networks, so like to have a firewall, since students are notorious for trying to access other people's 'puters.

cheers Oz

Its actually a common problem. The culprit is Security Update KB951748, and it is not playing well with ZoneAlarm. Just google it and you will see the microsoft and ZoneAlarm boards are lighting up since the release of the update.

If you are using XP and ZoneAlarm then stay away from this update until they patch it.
