Zotac Mobo Ethernet driver problem

Hey guys,

I recently purchased a Zotac NForce 610i Value mother board and after installing Windows XP I had troubles installing the drivers. I got the board for an extreme budget pc to get my gf's dead computer running again.

I first installed the drivers using the disc that came with the board and all seemed to install fine, but when I restarted the computer I got the windows loading screen followed by a completely black screen. Restarting again and choosing to restart windows from the last known good configuration uninstalled all of the drivers. I tried this approach one other time and the same thing happened.

I then went to the zotac website and downloaded all of the drivers and installed them manually from the device manager in Windows XP. While doing this it came apparent that the Ethernet drivers were causing the problem as all other drivers installed properly and held after a restart except those for the network adapter. The network adapter works fine after installation of the drivers as long as I don't restart the computer. However, as soon as I restart I get the same old black screen again.

Any ideas?

Ok, I spent an hour today trying to get this thing to work again and it appears the problem is the driver for the Nvidia Network Bus Enumerator that is causing the lockup.

I tried un-installing and re-installing the driver. Updating to XP service pack 2 and all current updates, rolled back when it failed. Updated to SP3 and all current updates and still no luck.

I can, however start in safe mode with networking after installing the drivers and getting a lock up. Dunno...doing more research on the net right now.

Any more ideas?

Edit: I just tried downloading the Nforce drivers from the Nvidia website, installed them and instead of getting a lock up, I get a BSOD and immediate restart before I can read the screen.

Woot, I finally found a solution of sorts to this problem after many hours of failed tests and internet research.

It turns out that the Nvidia 610i chipset has the ethernet controller and one of the two available SATA controllers sharing a pathway or some such thing which causes the problem with reboots. All I had to do was move the plug from SATA1 to SATA3 and disable the SATA controller that I wasn't using and no more problems. :-)
