First Liquid Cooling - Are my temps ok ??

Thread Starter
Just got done with my liquid cooling build, first ever under water. It's an e8400 and I just put a very mild OC of 3.6 on it for now cause I didn't want to jump right up to 4.0 yet.

My idle temps (higher than I expected) but I heard thats normal with LCS are 36/37 and I just did Four hours on Prime 95 with top load temps of 46C at the end of the four hours.

I'm not sure what to expect with liquid cooling - is this normal or should i be getting much lower temps?

thanks

Im not familiar with water temps because they can vary from system to system but I would be very happy with 46c

What are your ambient temp's? Thats how you know how well its working, your ambient to full load delta...Sounds good to me to, if your at a 25C or so room ambient...You will drop a few more C as your TIM burns in and the loop settles in...

Your delta from idle to load sounds about right to...I idle at 4 or 5C above room ambient and load at 13-14C above room ambient with around a 1.5 v-core...The higher your v-core is the higher your idle temp's will be, but load temp is the important one anyway...

If you get bored with it later on try some re-mounts and see if you can drop your temp's anymore, I usually do 4 or 5 over a month or two with a new block, that way I have a better idea of the temp's I should be getting...

IDLE at 4-5 c above ambient ?? is that right ?

I am at 23c ambient and see and idle of 36c & 35c (on my qx9650 45nm o/c to 4.05ghz with 1.4vcore )

and under prime it is upto 61c

so I 12c delta at idle and a 39c delta under load.

I didn't think that was too bad ???

Id have thought that processor might have been running a bit cooler. My Q6600 and GPU loop is idling 3c lower and 10c lower at max, same ambient as yours with 360 rad.

yeah but what vcore are you at ??,

also things are slightly different on 45nm

my q6700 where about these temps at 3.66ghz a.42vcore

23 ambient and just a CPU loop, fairly huge OC granted lol, But I woulda thought a 45 chip would be running cooler.

Maybe not.

na , not really , you be believing everything intel tell you next ,

lower voltage but higher current draw , take a look at the watts a 45nm chip produces

Thats what I run on this BE at 3500mhz....I've thrown a lot of $$$ at it to run that low to...I have 8-115cfm Pana on shrouds on my rad and a 10,000 BTU AC that blows over my mobo, a Iwaki high head pump and last but not least custom all metal Stinger CPU blocks...
