I personally don't think the HD4870 is worth it right now. Pick up a 4850 now, and a 4850/4870/4870x2 when you get a new monitor.

I think it's TOO good if you plan on upgrading so soon.

? Well I plan on getting a newer monitor in a month or two. I wouldnt have the funds to pick up a 4870 then and i would have a near new 4850. I fail to see the logic behind this?

Basically, does it matter to you if you get 100FPS compared to 80FPS? Even with a 24" monitor, a single HD4850 should hold you off awhile. Then grab a second one a month or two after the monitor upgrade, you'll have more performance that the HD4870.

I dont think Ill have the funds to go 4850 CF, and The resale value on GDDR5 will be more than the GDDR3 counterpart
