[ET] Gaming: Windows Vista SP1 vs. XP SP3 - Page 5

Yeah, the OEM version of Home Premium x64 was a hundred bucks on NewEgg. And I've noticed the speed difference (or lack thereof) myself. Once you disable some services and startup things, it's just as fast if not faster. And the only problem with compatibility I've had was with my wireless USB adapter. Even that was fixed with a 20 minute search on google.

i hav compared xp 32bit(sp2 and sp3) and xp64bit and vista 32bit ultimate and vista 64bit ultimate 64bit sp1....

my conclusion is that if you have a good system Vista Ultimate 64bit sp1 has out perfromed xp in almost all the games i have played.

I find it odd that people will run $1,500 PCs, and complain about spending another $100-150 to get the most out of their hardware...

I absolutely adore Vista. FAR better, in my experience, then XP ever was. I have zero complaints whatsoever. It is the best OS I have used.

Maybe down the road when I can afford new hardware that works on Vista, I'll switch to Vista. Not all XP users think Vista sucks, but not all can just switch becuase people think it's golden and evidently think all hardware works on Vista. It is simply not true.

There is a work around for my scanner, but it is not guaranteed to work every time which I need it to. I can not afford the time to sit and mess with setting and hope it will work.
I respect you since you dont use vista because it actually effects you.

But your scanner not working has 0 to do with microsoft or even Vista, and everything to do with the manufacturer of your scanner. Just like the driver catastrophie in Jan 2007 that bot MS blames, the lazy manufacturers didnt make vista drivers in time and so half of the stuff didnt work in vista.

The Included drivers with Vista are usually older or very common devices such as onboard audio, NIC cards, generic ATI/nVidia/Intel drivers, and hundreds of cameras and printers.

For overall usability Vista > XP
For nique support and e-penis3045delux Vista < XP

I think in the end the fact that I can click on an application and it will open instantly and this is greater than any negatives.

Security isn't important to you? Vista is quite a bit more secure with UAC, PatchGuard, ASLR, new firewall.

It is also quite a bit easier to use. You don't need to install raid drivers, hell you don't need to install any drivers. It will work out of the box with everything. When something goes "Not responding" more often than not it recovers, unlike XP.

Update is easier and more useful, it will update drivers and other software.

Vista is a nice OS.

Other than that, not much.
Although I don't know much about DX10 I doubt it is hype. Is DX10 suppose to make the graphics look better or perform stability, performance, and create standards (Unified Shaders )? I think many people fasly expected DX10 to magicly make everything look better.

So where are you XP fanboys? Desktop performance is WAY faster, gaming is the same/slightly faster in Vista.
