there is one more weird thing. Asus Ai Suite and everest are reporting temperature like this:
(full load - prime95)
CPU 43 C
CPU CORE#1 69
CPU CORE#2 69
CPU CORE#3 64
CPU CORE#4 66

why the huge difference betwin CPU temp read and core temp read?
when in idle...it shows the CPU at 14C and cores at ~ 40.

If Asus Ai shows your CPU temp @ 14C, then it's probably reporting it wrong (as 14C is probably less than your ambient temp), hence the 40C CPU load temp. Sometimes it has to do with the Tjunction or Tcase sensors (although I'm not 100% sure on that).

Try downloading SpeedFan (which will show both CPU and Core Temps) and also CoreTemp (EDIT: Sorry, it looks as if you may already be using Core Temp.)

ok...it seems stable now. I've got it down to 3.6ghz @ 1.31v. It's still running Prime95. Core temperatures are at 59-68c. Is this a safe temp? Mobo is at 42c. I am using a TR IFX-14 hs with a noctua fan.
Will this setup last if i run it like this or is my processor going to fail?

You are at 1.31 V-Core with your Q9550 and your temps are 59-68C with an IFX-14? That seems really high. What is your ambient temp? Did you apply the thermal compound (like Arctic Silver 5 or something similar) to the CPU correctly? Maybe you could try using more fans (the IFX-14 accommodates at least three fans, not including the backside heatsink.)

I am using arctic silver 5 applied acording to guide. The rig is new, couple of days. I've heard something about thermal grease cook time...or something...Maybe it's not done yet The backside heatsink is mounted properly and even has it's own fan. I use one fan in the middle of the main hs and there is another large one at the exaust of the case that also draws air thru the heatsink. The whole case is properly ventilated but there is the 9800gx2 that produces an incredible amount of hot air.

Hmmm. Not sure what else to tell you. The "burn-in" time or "cook time" for AS5 has never really seemed to make much difference for me, at least nothing really noticeable. I would just make sure you aren't going over 71C (Intel spec) on your Q9550.
